Meet David Norec of Fit-Lit (Fitness Literacy)

Today we’d like to introduce you to David Norec.

David Norec

Hi David, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
After losing my brother and sister to diabetes in 2013 and 2014, I prayed to God to give me a new purpose in life. That prayer was answered in the form of an idea to write a children’s book that inspires kids to eat healthy and exercise. “The Adventures of Exo and Cy” follows Exo and his dog Cy (exercise) in the town of O.B. City (obesity) where they try to prevent Mayor Diane Beeties (diabetes) from making everyone unhealthy. In this first book, Exo and Cy set out to stop Chip and his dog Nacho (potato chips) from stealing everyone’s healthy snacks. As the adventure ensues, there are 11 different “exocyses” that readers are encouraged to do, thus providing them an actual exercise workout.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road has been anything but smooth! Since the very beginning there have been many hurdles. Finding the money to pay for an illustrator and to get books printed was so difficult. Once that was taken care of, there has been the challenge of getting into schools and presenting to kids. Then there was COVID-19, which made it impossible to visit schools.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Fit-Lit stands for Fitness Literacy. Through our company, we offer a variety of products, programs, and services. In the fall of 2024 we will rolling out our “Fit-Lit Kids” programs for schools. In November we will be releasing our next book “The Journey of Aero and Bix”. Also in November, we will be releasing our documentary on diabetes called “An Inevitable Inheritance”. And through 2024, we will be inaugurating 8 “Fit-Lit Parks” where families can walk, read, and exocyse along park walking trails. More info on all these programs can be found at www.fitlitmovement.org.

If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
Growing up I loved playing all kinds of sports. Being raised in a very poor part of South Texas, I learned about the importance of hard work and always staying humble.
