Today we’d like to introduce you to David Novak.
David, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Raised in Silicon Valley (CA) Educated at Chapman University and embarked on a 26 year career in corporate business development starting with companies such as Apple, Palm Computing, Verizon Wireless & Sony where I was in charge of building business opportunities and negotiating agreements with fortune 100 companies it was time for a change.
Laid off by Sony in 2014 and met with the prospects of doing what I have always been doing or start something and somewhere new, my family and I decided to pick up and move to North Texas. Following the sell of our home, I drove my RV out to Melissa from Southern California (Canyon Lake) and lived in it for 2 months before I found our 1st Texas home in Plano (Deerfield) and started my Realtor journey. Though, I was recruited to run business development for a local technology company in Irving, my heart has always been in real estate and the bug could not hold me back. I earned my real estate license placed it with Keller Williams Plano and have been helping buyers, sellers and Investors ever since.
I now get to leverage the many years of high stakes, high value corporate negotiations that I have become known for to the benefit of individuals in making the most important purchase of their lives. I love providing the level of service and professionalism to all my clients that as a corporate executive myself, I expected from others in the business world.
I have been married to my wife, Sheila for 25 years. Have a 17-year old daughter and a 14-year old son.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I believe if it’s meant to be, it will go fairly smooth as it has with our transition to TX. My wife and I decided over a long weekend to explore McKinney learning that it was rated as one of the best cities to live in America. On the flight home, we decided to place our house for sale where it is not uncommon for homes to remain on the market for extended periods of time which meant we had time. Wrong, the home that we had custom built sold in 5 days and the true adventure began. My wife and the kids moved into my parents home while they were traveling and I drove out to Texas in our motorhome where I started the Texas home search and come to love the everything Texas. My wife worked for HP and her transfer from California to HP Enterprise in Plano was well received so there was little disruption on that front so once, I found a house and the kids school year ended, we were once again all together. One of the biggest struggles has been not being lured back to large enterprise and the comfort of a nice steady paycheck.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Keller Williams Plano – what should we know?
Placed my Real Estate license with Keller Williams Plano. Helping buyers, sellers and investors of real estate
Corporate background and applying to real estate transactions. Coming from California and knowing very little about Texas at the time, I have a different perspective and understanding of issues that face out of state buyers
Having worked at some of the best companies in the world, I did my research to ensure I placed my license with the best and this led me Keller Williams Plano, which is rated #1 training organization across all industries, # 1 in agent count and #1 in volume. What we call the trifecta.
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
Wife gets most credit for her support and willingness to risk a very comfortable lifestyle so that, I can pursue my passion.
Sony for the kick in the A — forcing me to reassess my next path and demonstrating to me that there is little security/loyalty these days in the corporate world and if you can take the risk and apply the experiences you gained you can control your own fate if you have the passion and support of those closest to you.
