Thanks for sharing your story with us David. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I started Tuckered Out Pet Care (TOPC) because I wanted to do something that I was passionate about. My past work experiences included working for Fidelity Investments for many years and owning a small pizza restaurant with my brother outside of Boston. When I moved to Frisco, TX three years ago I took a job with Torchmark in McKinney, TX. While working for Torchmark I realized that the office environment wasn’t for me anymore. At the same time, I wasn’t interested in going back into the restaurant industry. So at this point I wrote down on a piece of paper some things I was passionate about and this included cooking, family, outdoor activities and animals. It was at this point that the idea of Tuckered Out Pet Care came to light.
Without my wife Jill’s support TOPC would have never got off the ground. Jill’s a full-time nurse but on her days off she’s out walking dogs or helping out with pet sitting. Jill also took on a part time job to help cover the loss of my corporate paycheck.
Tuckered Out Pet Care just pass the one year mark and business is great. We have made many new friends and these friends trust us with their pets and homes. All the pets we care for become part of the TOPC family. We provide the same quality care to our client’s pet as we care for our own pets. Our passion for providing quality pet care has one of our clients flying us out to their new home in Colorado to watch their two dogs and house while they go on vacation. We also recently hired our first employee.
We are very excited for what the future holds for Tuckered Out Pet Care. No matter how much we grow quality pet care will always be our main focus. We love every pet we care for as if it was our own.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The biggest challenge we have had is getting our name out there. Originally, we tried advertising in local papers and online. We also did door hangers. So far, the best advertisement has been word of mouth and Facebook. Our neighborhood Hunters Creek has supported us from the beginning and this support has now reached all over Frisco, Plano, McKinney and Allen.
Another challenge is personal finances. When I bought the restaurant with my brother it was already established for 40 plus years. Starting a company from ground up is so much different. Hopefully as we continue to grow this will become less of a challenge.

Tuckered Out Pet Care provides exceptional quality pet care. We specialize in dog walking and pet sitting. Our clients are always at ease when we are caring for their fur babies. We always send our clients updates on their pets though text and pictures. What sets us apart from others is we are a family run business. My wife, daughter and son help out in one way or another. The quality care of our client’s pet is our number one priority.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
Besides growing the current business we hope to open a doggie daycare/boarding facility in the future. We will continue to provide dog walking and in-home pet sitting but also have a boarding facility for client that prefer not to keep their pets at home.
Pricing:
- Dog Walking $19 for a 30 minute walk
- Potty Breaks $15 for a 15 minute visit
- Pet Sitting Package $40 for three 30 minute visits in one day. This is a little more then 13/visit
