Meet Debbra Coursey

Today we’d like to introduce you to Debbra Coursey.

Debbra, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
My love for art began when I was a little girl, but high school is where I found my passion in painting. The ability to create an expression of the beauty in God’s creation provides great fulfillment. Therefore, most of my art consists of scenic settings in mountains, rivers and valleys in a realistic style of which I focus on the detail. I truly believe that my talent in art is God’s gift that I am to use to inspire, encourage, or bring back a wonderful memory to the onlooker. My hope is that, as one gazes at my paintings, that it takes them somewhere peaceful, lovely or somewhere full of joy.

Has it been a smooth road?
I’ve painted in segments of my life, taking breaks in between raising children, working, and my most recent break was due to a significant health issue. I’ve since retired from the workplace but, in recovering from illness, I used my painting as therapy. While pushing through physical pain and brain fog, I feel I’ve grown in my skill and my paintings are now better than they’ve ever been!

Tell us more about your art.
Many times, I receive a photo from a friend of a special place in her yard, favorite vacation spot, or photo of a special someone-I love recreating it in the form of art for them! It is such an honor to see a smile on someone’s face or tear of joy when I present it to them. Being patient and sure to capture every detail is a skill that has made all of the difference.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
Since growing up in the Dallas area, I’m blessed to be surrounded by friends and family who encourage and trust me to do great work for them. This is a great area for community and fellowship. With relatively great weather in Dallas year-round we have many opportunities to get together for fun!
