Today we’d like to introduce you to Deborah Beahm.
Deborah, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
About 15 years ago, I answered an ad for an artist which led to an apprenticeship in a renowned fine art restoration studio in Dallas. I found that I really enjoyed working with my hands and the difficult challenge of taking a broken object and restoring it so that the damage could not be visibly detected and the piece could be displayed and enjoyed once again. In 2007 I ultimately decided to open my own studio in Flower Mound where I reside. Over the years, I have always looked for ways to grow in my craft and many years ago added doll restoration and repair to my range of services. Many of the dolls that I work on are third or fourth generation heirlooms that have been passed down within a family. Knowing that I have helped bring back memories and that there will be plenty more to come is one of the greatest rewards of my work.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
As I am sure any small business owner will tell you, the road we take is not always easy and there are always paths that take you towards new goals. Being independent in making my own decisions about my work and my studio has always been worth the ups and downs that an individually owned business may bring.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Sublime Antique Restorations story. Tell us more about the business.
I specialize in the repair and restoration of porcelain and pottery art objects as well as antique, modern, and vintage dolls.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
As a professional restoration artist hard work, patience, a lot of practice and a lot of glue has always played more of a role than luck. I strive to create the best results on every piece for myself and for my clients.
