Meet Deborah Treece of Xtreme Swim in Plano

Today we’d like to introduce you to Deborah Treece.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Deborah. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
We purchased the store in 2011 from a company that was closing this branch down, as it wasn’t doing that well in the Texas Market. Since then, with a lot of hard work, we have tripled the original business. We started with 6 employees and today have 13.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
No, it wasn’t. I didn’t take a paycheck for the first two and a half years. I had partners that didn’t work out. They did not get along at all. One was removed and for legal reasons I cannot discuss, the other retired after a year and sold his shares to me. I had a competitor spreading rumors about our demise (which weren’t true) and soliciting our teams. It was a very difficult period.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
We are a competitive swim store. We sell suits, apparel and equipment, for all ages. Age range is 2 -102.
We service teams, schools, cities and lifeguards, as well as providing suits and equipment for water aerobics.
Our suits are made for beginners, all the way up to technical suits you would see in the olympics. There are many stores that sell the same or similar items all over the US. The only thing that differentiates us is our service. We are well known through out the Metroplex for the time and attention, we give to our swimmers when they visit our store. We personally, fit them for their suits and goggles. We have outstanding employees who have either swam, coached, worked as a lifeguard, swim instructor or water aerobics instructor, that can answer our customer’s questions.

We have a custom mobile swim store that we take to different venues that we are extremely proud of, as we are the first swim store to have something of this caliber. We are Xtreme.

What were you like growing up?
I was born in London, England and attended Boarding School in Purley, Surrey. I started to swim at the age of 3 and was on my boarding school team and an outside club team all of my years there. I also competed in Field Hockey, Rounders and Netball. I was extremely competitive, and outgoing.

I loved to read and enjoyed English, History and World Geography.

I left boarding school and trained as an open water swimmer at the age of 12. I attended school part time
from there on out. My longest open water swim was 16 hours, 45 minutes. I attempted to swim the English Channel.

One of my biggest passions is travel.
