Today we’d like to introduce you to Deepa Koshaley.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Deepa. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
My early years were filled with amazement, watching architectural gems and landscapes in course of extensive travels across many parts of India owing to the transferable job of my dad. Since my childhood, I have been passionate about doing something creative. I started practicing my skills of observation and graphic representation, participated in photography and art contest, won several prizes and certificates of appreciation for my work. However coming from a family of doctors and engineers, I was clueless about art and architecture could be a profession for me.
My parents identified my passion for arts and encouraged me to pursue studies in Architecture. I graduated in Architecture from Pune University, India. Worked in a Multidisciplinary firm on hand renderings and design for landscapes projects. I left the firm in pursuit of higher studies to secure greater in-depth knowledge in landscape architecture design. In 2008, I did Masters in Landscape Architecture with extra credits for visual communication from University of Texas at Arlington. Thereafter I worked in Landscape Architecture firms for few years.
As an Architect and Landscape designer, I learned problem-solving and functionality of the design. Art has a freedom that there is no functionality except being art. They are there to express and inspire.
Four years ago I started a landscape and visual design business which gave me the flexibility to work on paintings and teach art classes. My artwork has been displayed in different galleries, restaurants, and public offices. Recent group art exhibitions include in Mary Tomas Gallery, Irving Art Center, Eisemann Center (Richardson), South Dallas Cultural Center. Currently, I work in my home studio in Frisco, TX.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The business side of art is daunting and managing both landscape business and art is difficult but it is worth as I love to express myself through art, landscape, and visual design to broaden my art and design language.
Deepa Koshaley Art and Deepa Designscape – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I am a contemporary abstract artist and a landscape designer. My art is a close-up view of a vegetal world which focuses on form. Inspired by the basic design of architecture and fluidity in nature expresses as the play of shapes, vibrant colors, gestural marks, and washes in layers.
Contradictions present in nature are articulated in my art. It is lively yet relaxed and peaceful; abstract yet full; free yet orderly. This paradox gives a bigger perspective and meaning to life, representing our connection with the natural world. I aim to evoke inner peace and outer dynamism through my work, as I strive to live this state of being.
I help my clients to beautify their homes inside out with art and landscape.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
I define my success when my customers return to my landscape services or buy/ commission art which inspires me to do something new and better. My commitment to work and client satisfaction helped me build my business and trust.
