Meet Deidra Jefferson of SheWeiird

Today we’d like to introduce you to Deidra Jefferson.

Deidra, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
It all actually started when I was in 5th grade when I was diagnosed with a learning disability. A lot of labels was placed on me and I was told what wasn’t going to happen in my life as far a “regular” person. I knew then something special was within me, I didn’t have just the normal learning type. In fact, my learning style came with creativity; writing became the first thing I came in tune with. It’s how I expressed how I was feeling when I found it heard to vocally express myself.  As years went past, I was introduced into Spoken Word, I started attending workshops to help me develop my voice and different skills. Where I met my mentor/sister S’sence (Rest In Peace). She was an amazing spoken word artist, she basically took me under her wings and nurtured me in every aspect. In love with the visual of how powerful spoken word is, I fell in love with photography. How it expresses so much without even having to use words.

I’ve always wanting to own my own business so, I created SheWeird. Taking a word I was called all my life and adding “She” in front of it. SheWeiird is very much still growing; developing a complete team, new equipment for a new service that will now be offered for events. Here in Dallas, I can be seen at different events; taking pictures or blessing the Mic with spoken word.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success/successful to me means excepting the journey and not letting your journey to defeat you. I don’t only look at the “Blessing” that’s have opened up doors for me to be my success stories but my trials and tribulations too. I can say where I am in my journey is a beautiful success because I MADE IT NO MATTER WHAT STATISTICS/LABELS WAS PLACED UPON ME. I’ve successfully broke every chain, roadblock, hardship to come my way.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
OMG, No! It has been one ride of a journey for me. Endless obstacles, re-routing. I am just getting back into the photography side of things due to my equipment being stolen out of my car after an event. I’m still trying to figure out my nitch that’s just speaks “SheWeird” when seen or heard. Breaking into the art world is by far is the hardest.

Thank you for contacting/booking with SheWeird
