Today we’d like to introduce you to Deisy Alfaro.
Deisy, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I’ve been working as a freelance makeup artist and hair stylist since I was 15 years old. I worked with professional photographers and stylists for free early on to gain experience in the beauty industry. Soon after I had built up a portfolio with credible work and had made many connections.
Meanwhile, I was also building up my client base but because I was so young and still didn’t own my own studio, my clients came to my house. I would shampoo my clients’ hair in the bathtub, that’s right, the bathtub. But they always came back.
When I graduated high school, I knew college wasn’t for me and I wanted pursue my dreams of being a professional makeup and hair stylist, so I attended Paul Mitchell The School in Arlington.
After completing my professional training, I started working at MAC cosmetics as a makeup artist while working with photographers and stylist on the side. But I knew I eventually wanted to work for myself so I left MAC and opened a beauty salon in Arlington.
Once I started working for myself, I felt free to express my creativity and work with clients on a more personal level.
When you do your client’s hair or makeup, you begin to cultivate a relationship with that client and every client is different. Everyone has a story, and I feel privileged to hear all of them.
Has it been a smooth road?
It definitely was not a smooth road! Me being so young I struggled with age shaming. No one ever took me serious, it took a lot of work for me to prove myself, and show that age was not going to stop me from accomplishing my goals. I struggled with being “too nice” so I got stepped all over on and almost cost me my whole business and the name I worked so hard for. I learned from it and got back up, and came back with a BANG! I’m sure I’ll have more struggles throughout the way, but that’s the beauty of growing and learning.

We specialize and are known for hair color, cutting and makeup. We offer other service as well, such as keratin treatments, perms, facials, waxing, eyelash extensions, eyelash lifting etc. We’re a one-stop shop! What sets us apart is our Pixie-Glam experience, we believe in building relationships with each and every one of our clients. We make sure our clients feel at home and treat everyone with love.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
We’re so DIVERSE! Arlington is right in the middle of Fort Worth and Dallas. We get all different types of culture, backgrounds and personalities.
What I like least definitely has to be TRAFFIC! Since we are right in the middle we get all the traffic and no one ever likes coming to work and getting stuck in traffic…
