Today we’d like to introduce you to Demarcus Roberts.
Demarcus, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I am a product of South Dallas and DISD. My childhood was full of love, happiness and great food. My mother, granny, aunts, and uncles were all great cooks. I took a love for cooking and baking at a very young age. While in my teens, I perfected my gift as a cook but it was when I went to college, I was able to experiment more and rightfully join the ranks. While attending college in Atlanta, Georgia, it was quite common to stop by on Sundays for a spread of food that would be full of butter and love. Also, in college, I began to bake for friends and cater to holiday dinner for coworkers.
After moving back to Dallas, my granny took ill and eventually past away. That was a devastating blow. It had been a very long time since I had seen her. I wanted to do something to ensure that her legacy was not forgotten. Out of that trying situation, “Granny’s Scratch Kitchen” was birth. Granny’s Scratch Kitchen provides nostalgic type deserts such as pound cakes, tea and sweet potato pies. A good majority of the recipes are my granny’s. In these recipes, you will be able to taste the love and the butter!
I am a graduate of Morehouse College and an accountant by trade. I have eight plus years of experience in the field of accounting. I have been a Senior Treasury/Revenue Accountant for the past five years. Although accounting is my background, baking has always been my passion. Granny’s Scratch Kitchen is his way of honoring my granny while allowing the world to taste some of the greatest desserts.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
“Nobody told me, the road would be easy. I don’t believe He brought me this far to leave me.” The road of entrepreneurship is certainly the road less traveled. It hasn’t been all roses, however, the experience has taught me so much about myself, the business world and people at large. My village has definitely been a great support system through this process. My gifts have definitely made room for me!
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Granny’s Scratch Kitchen – what should we know?

My Inspiration
February 20, 2018, I laid his granny to rest. I recall memories of assisting her in the kitchen. When I was able to read and light the stove, I remember practicing while granny was at work. Unfortunately, I can’t go back to those days but I still remember all the nuggets and recipes imparted to me over the years. Amie Sands’ legacy of being one of the greatest bakers and cooks will live on through me.
Proud Moment
I am most proud of being able to share my Granny’s recipes with the world. People think it’s an old lady behind the business; however, it’s a 32-year-old man who is changing the game in the world of pound cakes. Granny’s Scratch Kitchen is set apart from its competitors through its use of fresh ingredients, customer service, values and love.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
