Meet Demetrius Brock of Brock Massage Therapy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Demetrius Brock.

Demetrius, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I got started in massage therapy back in 2003 when I finished massage school here in Dallas and got my state license. I was a bit of an unlikely candidate for this profession but a massage therapist friend of mine saw something in me, knew I was searching for something I wanted to stick with long-term and suggested that I give massage therapy a try. I took her advice, loved it instantaneously, and never looked back.

Before striking out on my own, I worked in various wellness and spa settings, from chiropractic offices to day spas to five-diamond hotels.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Brock Massage Therapy has been a long time coming into the formalization as a business entity with a cohesive vision. I’ve taken the long, scenic route, if you will—doing in-home massage sessions and the odd corporate chair massage gig, here and there. I have an art and music background and I evolved into a total massage nerd; I could talk about massage all day and never really say the same thing twice. In other words, I’m not naturally inclined to think about the business aspects of massage.

Back in 2016, when my wife (then-fiancé) Hollye, had finally heard one too many rants about how this or that colleague, or boss, or even client, didn’t take the artistry and healing power of massage seriously, she suggested that I do something about it. Shortly after that, we took the steps to become a legal business. I wanted to take care of my clients in the way that I expect when I am on the paying end of a service. Hollye supported me in that and we’re now business partners. I take care of the bodywork and she takes care of the paperwork (and everything else!).

I wouldn’t say it’s been a smooth road but it is an exciting and fulfilling one. Of course, some things are frustrating but I truly believe in self-determination and seeing my vision through. The struggles along the way are less “struggles” than just life. My wife and I are still navigating our way around how to give our still-new marriage, our two-year-old son and our business the time and attention they all deserve. There’s nothing else I’d rather be doing.

Please tell us more about your work.
Brock Massage Therapy is a mobile massage company specializing in corporate and workplace wellness. We also provide in-home massage and spa treatment services.

We are known for our professionalism, attention to detail, and for consistently providing an outstanding massage. I am proud of the fact that I give no less than 100% for every single massage I perform. My last person of the day pays the same rate as the first person of the day and is treated accordingly. As I indicated before, it drives me crazy to see therapists with a less than amazing attitude about massage or a poor work ethic. This may sound a bit corny or dewy-eyed or boastful but I believe this is my calling. I absolutely love the feeling that I get when a client tells me that I’ve helped improve their range of motion, relieved what was once chronic pain, or helped them become a more pleasant person because of the absence of that pain.

It’s pretty simple concept (though hard to come by in daily life) but the pride I take in my work and the love I have for my chosen profession is what sets me apart from others.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
Nothing. I have learned and I am still learning from my mistakes and my successes!

Demetrius is a great person and amazing massage therapist. He has a very calming demeanor which is felt the minute you meet him. As a mobile massage therapist, he carries everything he could possibly need and more. Towels were kept warm in mobile warming devices and the actual massage itself is the best I have ever received.
