Today we’d like to introduce you to Dennis DJ CEOSTYLE Broadnax.
Dennis, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Back at Prairie View A&M University, I was asked to DJ a party for a friend. I didn’t have any turntables just two radios and CDs with different music on it. I was instantly amazed at the feeling that came over me to be able to make the crowd move. I was thrilled at how the crowd reacted to what I was doing and how excited they were at the music I played. So, I asked DJ Wiz, who is a gospel DJ in Houston, for help getting started. He took me under his wing and really showed me how to DJ with turntables and CDs. Once I practiced for many nights after class, I funded my own very first official party.
Once that party was over, the word was out that I was a DJ. My very first DJ name was DJ Kingpin. I was then starting to get booked. My very first paid event was a going-away party, which was booked thru Devinaire of HCU Ent. for C. Brice here in Dallas as he was going away to the army. I was nervous, as it was the first official gig and it was in front of people I went to school with. The party was a success and DJ Kingpin was in full effect.
At this point, word was out and I was starting to get events often and decided to make it a business. Eclectic Kings Entertainment Group was born in 2012. It started with close friends, Ms. Danielle as my manager, Trey Johnson as Promotion/Marketing, Celena as social media president.
As time went on, I felt that I needed to grow and become more marketable to show the growth in life and my career. I decided that I should change my name from Kingpin to CEOstyle to reflect the ‘boss’ mentality that I expressed.
As of today, I have been blessed to have been apart of many different events. I have played at numerous private celebrity events, homecomings, clubs, and private events. I have also been blessed to be apart of some of the biggest moments in family and friends lives, such as birthdays, weddings and divorce parties (yes, divorce parties).
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It has not been a smooth ride because life is never smooth. I have had to endure the struggles of branding, marketing, and staying relevant. I have had events that were canceled without notice, and some non-payments. But I truly love music and love what I do so, therefore, I continue to learn from my mistakes and keep pushing.
Please tell us about Eclectic Kings Ent Group – what should we know?
Eclectic Kings Ent Group (EKEG) is a company that helps promote a new artist and new music for an underground artist. We specialize in what we call ‘artist support’. We do whatever we can to help ‘break’ artist to the world. My biggest accomplishment was helping launch our very own Ms. Danielle career. She is by far the most talented female singer we know.
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
First and foremost, I give all praise to God for allowing me to bring life to this dream I have. Without him, nothing is possible.
Secondly, my parents, who were both entrepreneurs. I learned the ‘hustle’ mindset from them. They also instilled humility to also do business honest and right. I treat people the way I want to be treated
Also, my initial team of Danielle, Celena, and Trey. They pushed to make sure that we didn’t stay stagnant and to keep moving forward.
Lastly, my wife who pushes my daily to reach my fullest potential at all times.
