Meet Dennis Jackson of D Jackson BBQ & Catering in Oak Cliff

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dennis Jackson.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Dennis. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Well, we started out strictly doing catering. We catered all types of events over the years. We also had a trailer that we would travel in that had a BBQ pit attached to it. We would sit the trailer in church parking lots, clubs, business, everywhere. Eventually, by saving, exposure, and the grace of God, we got the building. It took a lot of hard work and hours, but after a year of renovations, we opened this year, on my grandmother’s birthday. We are truly blessed.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It hasn’t always been easy. Last year, when my grandmother passed away, it was rough, but I was more motivated than ever to get the ball rolling on the restaurant. After all, it was her love of cooking that got me to where I am. Of course, life happened in the middle but we, as a family, prevailed.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
We are a family-owned BBQ restaurant. We take and make order in the restaurant and we do catering as well. We are known for our BBQ Nachos, Turkey Legs, Loaded Baked Potatoes, Ribs, Chopped Brisket, you name it. We have homemade everything. Even the BBQ sauce is our own recipe.

As an Owner, I am proud of my family and the work that they put in alongside me. My lovely wife, daughters and some other family. Even my grandson loves coming and speaking with the customers. I am proud we are doing this together and with God. I am also proud that because of the restaurant, I will be able to do things within the community to help my people, which you all soon the fruits of that labor soon, hopefully. It’s all God, Family, and Love.

What were you like growing up?
Being the oldest of 6 children, I was responsible, of course. I wanted to be someone they could look up to. I also loved sports and music. I was in a band and played football in high school and I wasn’t shy about either of them lol. I started playing Bass Guitar really young; fell in love with it. I played in church as well. Music is in my family. My siblings play instruments and sing (most of them, lol) and also played sports as well. Growing up in East, Texas, you could imagine football was the thing. I will never forget those Friday night games. The hard work at the practice definitely helped shape who I am. That worth ethic follows you for life in every aspect of your life.
