Thanks for sharing your story with us Dennis. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Started as a Texas License to carry instructor for a little side income with a small shooting range for my students… In 18 months since our open, the demand has increased enough that we have grown to 262,000 sq. ft. of training area. For the standard shooter, we have your typical range to punch paper. But here at Nomads, we focus on defensive training and have designed the range to train with real life scenarios. We have a full steel target range and a live fire shoot-house that you would only find at a law enforcement range. We also are one of the only ‘day rate’ range around the area where membership is not required.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
There will always be neighbors who don’t like the noise of a shooting range. Before we opened, we contacted all the local county branches to make sure we were allowed to have a range in our neck of the woods. We did lots of reading and research on shooting berms and ways to ensure we would be as safe as we could be. The only challenge now is growth and finding other instructors to help with advanced training.
Nomads Tactical – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
We are a public shooting range open to everyone. We specialize in a safe, friendly place to practice and learn how to shoot your firearms. If you want some advice, we’re here to help. If you want some training, we have the credentialed training available. Our reviews and growth show we must be doing something right.
We now have created a new branch of training for church security that we call Nomads for Christ. With the increase in church violence, we felt it imperative to help teach people how to protect God’s house. The range we have built is suited to this type of training.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Our range is 100% self-sufficient and has paid its own way since the first month we opened. Our growth and candid reviews we get show that people like us. If it were not for customers, we wouldn’t be here and customers are the key to any business succeeding. That said, we try to make every one of them feel glad that stopped by. We average over 70% new customers every week.
