Today we’d like to introduce you to Deondra Taylor.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
My journey into modeling began when I was 17. I was working at an Arby’s in Keller, next to a Toni & Guy Hair school, the students came in for lunch, and when they were leaving they asked if I would like to model in their annual hair show. Of course I said yes! Who doesn’t want to be a model? Once I did that show, I fell in love with it, from the photo shoots to the runway I loved it all. With modeling, I have gained confidence in myself and my body. In the mix of being an aspiring model, I started my own companies, TRUe. & The Write Calligraphy. They’re a work in progress but being an entrepreneur is pretty awesome!
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
What’s a smooth road? I haven’t made it there yet, but I am definitely ready for the construction to be over! The main struggle I have is marketing. If I could overcome being able to market myself and my brand constantly I would be able to see the smooth roads ahead. Social media is the biggest market and being able to market yourself is definitely hard work. I do believe that eventually all of my hard work will pay off in the end. One of my favorite quotes is, “Give me 6 hours to chop down a tree and I will spend the first 4 sharpening my axe.” -Abraham Lincoln.
The Write Calligraphy – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
TRUe. is my brand. It is a concept of being true to everything I start and being honest about what I bring to the table. TRUe. is real and very creative which is definitely me in a nutshell. My other business is The Write Calligraphy. I do wall decor, wedding signs, wooden crafts, and more. I specialize in wall decor and I’m known for my clean and crisp handwriting. I am most proud of learning different fonts, items to provide for my customers, and most importantly running a business. What sets me apart from other Calligraphy businesses is all of my items are customizable and handwritten.
Do you feel like our city is a good place for businesses like yours? If someone was just starting out, would you recommend them starting out here? If not, what can our city do to improve?
I love the DFW area because there is so many creative minds in this area. Everyone is very supportive and is willing to give feedback and help in any way possible to see each other succeed at their craft.
If someone was just starting out I would tell them to not give up and follow their dreams. Always keep moving forward because nothing you want in life ever comes easy!
