Today we’d like to introduce you to Derrick LeBlanc.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
After college I started working in politics as a congressional staff member for the United States House of Representatives. Near the end of a long career in politics, photography provided me with a creative outlet. I started traveling the globe with my camera in-tow hoping to capture amazing landscapes, waterscapes and unique faces. I’ve always had a love for photography, but I truly fell in love with my camera and the art I began to create during this time. I was then offered a rare opportunity to apprentice for a world renowned photographer in New York. This chance of a lifetime was the best thing to ever happen to me, I soaked up everything I could from him about photography and his love and passion inspired me. I also learned invaluable lessons about modeling, and fashion working with some of the top designers and models in the industry. My focus on portrait and fashion photography grew stronger each day while I was in New York. The experience created a fire inside me to open a photography studio in Dallas that would allow me to share with my community a unique photographic experience. This was the most fulfilling decision I’ve ever made and I can’t wait to see what the future holds.
Has it been a smooth road?
The road hasn’t been completely smooth, and I honestly didn’t expect it to be smooth. I truly started this business because I love being a photographer. Photography is a very saturated field, so it’s vital to create a unique niche within this community and that’s what I’ve tried to do. I can never learn enough, I continually try new things and push new boundaries in this field. I also believe you must appreciate the beauty and art others create in your field. I love seeing other photographers do well, because as an artist I can’t be original while looking over my shoulder. I take each obstacle in stride and persevere. I love challenges, no matter what comes up it forces my creative mind to be more creative.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
I have a photography business that specializes in fashion, portrait, family and editorial photography. I’m known for unique images that bring out the beauty in my clients and for my laid back demeanor during photoshoots. I aim to create unique angles, and looks during my sessions. I team up with some of the best hair and makeup artists in the area to get that perfect look for my customers. I don’t operate like most photographers off of a set price list. I speak individually with each client about their photographic needs so I can customize a package that is specific to them. Personal touches like these are guaranteed, and they make my business unique.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Dallas is an amazing place to start a business. The growth we are experiencing in this area provides a great opportunity for all businesses, but especially a great opportunity for businesses focusing in the arts. New clientele are arriving daily and I love that.
