Hi Deshonte, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Lashes was something I stepped into blindly, with no prior knowledge of the beauty industry. All I knew was that I wanted to do something great something that would help women feel good, look good, and make a difference in my own life. I discovered lashing during a confusing time, but in the midst of it all, God had a plan for me. He brought Mrs. DeeDee into my life, and from that moment on, everything changed. I never looked back on my old ways, and I’ve never stopped striving to better myself throughout my career.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
With anything worth having, I’d have to say the journey has been both challenging and rewarding. The experience has truly been worth the ride. My desire to be great pushed me through early mornings, long nights, and countless investments in training and perfecting my craft. It wasn’t always easy it often got lonely. I missed out on fun times and hanging out with friends, especially in the beginning. But I had a clear goal in mind, and I was determined to achieve it, no matter the sacrifices. Every moment of dedication and every missed opportunity for leisure was a step closer to realizing my dreams. In the end, I’ve learned that true success requires focus, perseverance, and sometimes, the willingness to walk a path that others might not understand.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Growing up in South Dallas, my life took an unexpected turn when I became a mother as a teenager. Facing criticism and doubt from all sides, the weight of societal expectations was heavy. But rather than succumbing to the negativity, I chose to step out on faith. I knew I had to become someone my children could look up to, and someone other young girls in similar situations could see as proof that their dreams were still within reach.
Becoming a Lash Artist was more than a career-it was a passion fueled by a desire to uplift others. To me, it was never just about applying lash extensions; it was about creating a bond with my clients, making them feel not only beautiful but empowered. Every woman who sat in my chair left not just with enhanced lashes but with renewed confidence to face the world.
Through the years, I discovered that my work was as much about emotional connection as it was about beauty. I’ve shared in my clients’ triumphs and challenges, becoming not just their Lash Artist, but also their confidante and friend. The relationships I’ve built have been the heart of my business, and I’m proud to stand by my clients through all of life’s moments.
When I launched HighEnd Lash Lounge, it was a turning point. I went from working out of my front room to opening my own storefront—a space where women could come for more than just lashes. They came for an experience, a place where they knew they would leave feeling their best, inside and out. Establishing myself as the go-to Lash Artist and educator in my community has been one of my greatest achievements.
Being the first African American woman from South Dallas to own a lash lounge is a milestone I hold close to my heart. My journey is a testament to the power of ambition, confidence, and unwavering faith in God. I hope that my story serves as a beacon of hope for young girls everywhere-proof that no matter the obstacles, with determination and faith, dreams are within reach.
