Today we’d like to introduce you to Desiree Peoples.
Hi Desiree, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. I have been working in the mental health field since 2018, and in the counseling field since 2022. My passion has always been helping individuals and couples strengthen their foundations, whether through premarital counseling, marital counseling, or navigating life transitions. Early in my career, I recognized how often relationships serve as the core of a person’s well-being, when those bonds are strong, individuals thrive, but when they are strained, the impact reaches every area of life.
Over the years, I developed a strong interest in equipping couples with practical tools and insights that not only help them overcome current challenges but also prepare them for long-term success. I found great fulfillment in witnessing couples grow in their ability to communicate, resolve conflicts, and rediscover connection. This growing passion ultimately inspired me to open my private practice, Restoring Love Counseling, where I focus on preparing and restoring foundations for happiness. Through this work, I’ve been able to combine evidence-based practices with a compassionate, individualized approach that empowers couples to build healthy, lasting relationships.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The journey has been incredibly rewarding, but certainly not without its challenges. One of the biggest hurdles I’ve faced has been learning how to balance the clinical side of my work with the demands of running a business. As a therapist, my natural focus is on serving clients and creating a safe, supportive space for them. However, stepping into private practice required me to also wear the hat of a business owner, developing skills in marketing, operations, and management that were outside my original training.
There were moments of uncertainty, especially in the beginning, as I navigated questions like how to reach the right clients, how to structure my services in a sustainable way, and how to manage the behind the scenes responsibilities that come with entrepreneurship. It has been a continuous learning process, but one that has ultimately stretched me in ways I didn’t anticipate.
Through those challenges, I’ve learned resilience, adaptability, and the importance of asking for support when needed. Each hurdle has not only made me stronger as a business owner but has also deepened my empathy for clients who are navigating their own life transitions. In many ways, the growth I’ve experienced parallels the very work I encourage in my clients, embracing change, developing new skills, and building a solid foundation for the future.
As you know, we’re big fans of Restoring Love Counseling. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
At Restoring Love Counseling, I work with couples at all stages of their relationships, whether they are dating, engaged, married, or navigating separation and divorce. I value supporting couples in monogamous and poly relationships, and I am especially proud to serve couples within the LGBTQ+ community. My goal is always to meet couples where they are and provide the tools and guidance they need to move forward with confidence and connection.
What sets me apart is the intentional and structured approach I bring to the counseling process. One example of this is my premarital program, which incorporates the Prepare/Enrich assessment. This tool allows me to tailor sessions specifically to each couple’s strengths and areas for growth, making counseling a truly personalized experience.
But beyond tools and techniques, I believe what distinguishes my work is the atmosphere I create. Couples often describe my counseling style as compassionate yet practical, I provide a safe space for vulnerability while also helping them develop concrete skills they can use immediately. My focus is not only on resolving current issues but also on equipping couples with long-term strategies to maintain healthy, fulfilling relationships.
I’m proud that Restoring Love Counseling represents more than just a counseling practice, it reflects my commitment to preparing and restoring foundations for happiness. I don’t just walk couples through challenges; I walk with them as they build stronger, more resilient partnerships that can thrive for years to come.
Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
I attribute much of my success to the mentors and colleagues who have guided me along the way. Their wisdom, encouragement, and willingness to share their own experiences have been instrumental in shaping the professional I am today. I am also deeply grateful to my clients each one has taught me something meaningful about resilience, love, and growth. Their courage continues to inspire me and reminds me daily why I chose this path.
