Meet Destiny Alexander of The Manifest Destiny in Lake Highlands

Today we’d like to introduce you to Destiny Alexander.

Destiny, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I took my first photography class in high school and I wasn’t great. I didn’t understand lighting or composition. I never edited any of my photos, and when I did edit them they looked filtered to the nines. Regardless of that, people still said I had a good eye for capturing special moments so I kept at it. I would practice on family, friends, just about anybody that was down to stand in front of my lens. Also behind the scenes, I would study the fundamentals of photography and practice as I went. I learned a lot through trial and error which is how I got here today.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It was not smooth at all. In college, I really struggled with my identity as an artist. I was very self-critical and intimidated by all of the “photographers” popping up on campus. They seemed to appeal to the masses and get a lot of praise for their photos, meanwhile, I just felt like I was in the shadows unnoticed. I am grateful for that sort of downtime in college because it allowed me to focus on what type of work I wanted to create and the stories I wanted to tell. That’s one thing that I realized with all those photographers, sure they had great photos but what stories were they telling?

The Manifest Destiny – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
My business is The Manifest Destiny and we specialize in telling stories through photography. What I am most proud of as a company is our ability to wow our clients. The look we see on their faces when we reveal their finished products or the comments like “OMG I’ve never looked this good,” or “how did you even think to capture that,” never get old and that is what we do it for. What sets us apart is our ability to show the beauty inside all of us and that we are not really strangers because our stories are what unite us.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
My plans for the future are to, of course, keep telling stories but in a bigger way. I plan to add more production into my photoshoots and to really polish them so that there’s no distraction from what I’m trying to say as an artist. I’m looking forward to more people discovering the work that we do at The Manifest Destiny and trusting us with their stories.
