Today we’d like to introduce you to Destiny Saucedo and Yasmeen Leal.
Destiny and Yasmeen, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
The idea for the Everyday Girls began as a series of conversations in the summer of 2018. We were both dreaming of where we wanted to be years from now and sharing our heart’s passions. There were many instances where the idea of a blog came up, but we would quickly shrug it off, thinking it was too common and so many girls were already doing it. One night as we were sitting on the bedroom floor, we finally decided to go for it. We had absolutely nothing to lose, and we didn’t want to wait passively. We realized if we wanted to see all these dreams become a reality, we needed to get out there and start creating them. In November of 2018, we launched the Everyday Girls blog, with the hope to empower and encourage women of all ages and in their relationships and faith. We have invested much of our time, energy, and resources into The Everyday Girls, but what a fun and fulfilling adventure it has been! Our expectations for the blog have been exceeded. We have had the opportunity to connect with incredible women in the DFW area and support their events, and through this we have hosted three events of our own. Not only have we been able to encourage and empower others, but we ourselves are the ones who have been changed the most through this journey.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
With any journey, there have been road bumps along the way. Our greatest obstacle has been to balance our personal lives and to remain focused and consistent with producing content. We have learned that communication with each other is key. Since life can get busy, working as a team allows us to pull each other up in moments of distraction and remind us of our goals. Much of the content we produce is centered on empowering women in their friendships, yet it is an area that we have experienced setbacks in our lives this year. Maneuvering through these losses has been discouraging and has made us question if we ourselves are living up to the standards we write about. While this has been an obstacle, it has also been a win for us. It’s from these places of loss and disappointment where we have learned and grown the most, and have been able to truly relate with others.
Please tell us about The Everyday Girls.
Our mission is to encourage and empower the everyday girl in her relationships and in her walk of faith. We do this by sharing our personal struggles and victories via our blog and Instagram, and we host events to create a space for women to connect with each other, share their stories, and to be edified and celebrated in their journeys. We believe that what sets us apart is that our ultimate goal is not to reach thousands of followers. Our definition of success is not driven by popularity or tons of likes and viewers. From the beginning, we decided that we would write and share our personal struggles and victories for the one. One life is so valuable and important, and if we’re able help someone truly believe their value and purpose and come alongside to help them walk it out, then we have succeeded in fulfilling our vision.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
If we had to start over, we would have started sooner. After we conquered the fear of stepping out and sharing our voice, we realized it was not as intimidating as it seemed. In starting sooner, we would have had more experience under our belts and we would have completed more of the goals we set for ourselves. We also would have sought guidance and wisdom from other accomplished woman a lot sooner. We realized it’s just a matter of putting ourselves out there and seeking the advice that these people have to share. However, every setback, failure, triumph, and victory has molded us into better people and has further ignited our passion to set the bar even higher for ourselves and our purpose for the Everyday Girls.
