Today we’d like to introduce you to Devante Sanders, Malik Tipler, and Edwin Freeman.
Affluent Management Group is a full-service management group that specializes in professional sports & entertainment. Founded in 2018 by brothers Devante Sanders, CEO and Edwin Freeman, President. Devante and Edwin met while playing football at Arlington Bowie High School in 2011. Freeman, the younger brother was an exceptional athlete. In fact, in 2014, Freeman’s senior year in high school, he would go on to become the highest-rated national recruit in the history of the football program (#13 ranked linebacker nationally) and committed to The University of Texas at Austin. Sanders, the elder would also take his talents to the Division 1 level and play cornerback at Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas. The brothers remained close during their college years and often discussed their future of building a partnership outside of the lines. In efforts to gain an understanding of the language of business, Sanders would go on to receive a Masters in Accounting from Texas State in 2018.
Following his collegiate career, Devante successfully completed all four parts of the CPA exam and moved to New York to work for Deloitte & Touche, the world’s largest accounting firm. While in New York, he oversaw financial deals and transactions for some of the world’s largest financial institutions such as Blackstone, Morgan Stanley, and New Mountain Capital. While servicing tax clients of Jay-Z’s Roc Nation, Devante grew a close friendship with Kyrie Irving of the then Boston Celtics after meeting him at his 27th birthday party in Manhattan. Through this relationship, Devante had the opportunity to be the key member in recruiting Kyrie Irving to sign with Roc Nation as he orchestrated Kyrie’s recruiting trips at the Roc Nation offices with Juan Perez, President of Roc Nation Sports. Following his involvement with Roc Nation Sports, Sanders decided to launch his own management firm dedicated to the empowerment of athletes alongside his brother Edwin. Freeman enjoyed a successful playing career while at UT. Edwin played in 29 games including 5 starts. During the 2016 Season, he recorded a career-best two interceptions and 50 tackles for the season.
Following his time at The University of Texas at Austin, Edwin took his talents East to play at Florida International University. There he would go on to play in 13 games; including 13 tackles at Charlotte, 1 interception at UTSA, and the 2018 Bahamas Bowl Defensive MVP. Following an amazing collegiate career, Edwin decided to forego an opportunity to participate in camp with the Miami Dolphins and co-found Affluent Management Group. Since inception Affluent appointed Malik Tipler, Graduate of Texas State University, and former Midwestern State collegiate athlete as Chief Operating Officer to strategically oversee operations related to the sports division.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The most challenging obstacles are those ahead. AMG is currently in management negotiations with professional football players on active rosters such as the Kansas City Chiefs, Detroit Lions, and Washington Redskins. As our roots in the football world are deepest given our background. However, ad we continue to recruit athletes from the national basketball association we will rely on our recruiting and networking to continue to expand.
Please tell us about Affluent Management Group.
