Today we’d like to introduce you to Deve Sanford.
Influenced by her international upbringing and travels, the importance of being culturally aware and having a global perspective resonated with Deve at an early age and became the driving force that led to her career path. Enjoying many strategic alliances around the world, Deve discovered a way to merge her expertise in business with her passion for creativity. Today she is a partner in a thriving international, luxury distribution company, a partner in a Scandinavian-based amenity design firm and Publisher of Upscale Living Magazine-Dallas Edition. Using her platform to touch the lives of others, she has dedicated her free time to supporting local and international organizations that encourage mental and physical well-being of women and children. One aspect of her life that she holds most dear is being a mother to her son, Sanford Nilsson, and hopes that through her example, he will have the foundation in which he needs to become a true citizen of the world.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It’s never a smooth road when you are a perfectionist, but understanding where true success lies and how to create a balance is an essential component of feeling a sense of achievement.
We’d love to hear more about your work.
I have been working within the luxury industry all my career and across a broad spectrum of markets, but what I think I am most proud of is remaining innovative and inclusive. Traditionally, the luxury industry is not a very inclusive market, but I have been able to create a product that is accessible to all, and that is a true luxury.
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
It truly takes a village. I don’t believe anyone is successful in life without someone else giving them the opportunity to be, whether this person is a family member, friend, or colleague that may have inspired a course of action. My biggest supporters and mentors have been my family, more specifically, my mother and father. They have been amazing role models of overcoming and thriving in the face of obstacles. The most important lesson I have learned from them is that everything is temporary except the things in life that hold true value, so I make it a point to not get caught up in the end results all the time. My focus is always the journey!
