Meet Deveja Webb of Gentlemans Corner in Oakcliff

Today we’d like to introduce you to Deveja Webb.

Deveja, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I was born in Dallas, Texas but moved to Little Rock, Arkansas shortly after with my grandmother. I was constantly placed into various activities to help fuel my creative passions with me scarcely recognizing it. I moved back to Dallas when I was five years old and was raised by 5 generations of women. My grandmother tells stories of me being able to draw and create amazing images as soon as I was able to pick up a pencil. I attended three art schools and programs and discovered a love for creative images. I enrolled to skyline high school with the architecture cluster where I completed two years. From there I went to Prairie View University in Houston, Texas, were I progressively extended my academic study of architecture. I never finished, but that was a blessing within itself. I found that I didn’t like the logistics and rules of complex architecture. As funny as it may sound I found tranquility in the raw juices of uninhibited creativity. From the first time I picked up a camera it felt like destiny.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The road of getting to where I am now being definitely difficult at times, but not for the reasons most people would say. Starting out I amassed a considerable following on social media so everyone assumed I modeled for brands. It took some time for individuals to properly consider me serious photographer in the field. Because it would look as if I was just doing it because I had the means but not the passion. Once I crossed that hurtle the next opponent was myself. The self-doubt can be louder than any critic when it comes to naturally following your dreams. I undoubtedly had to look in the mirror and say, “you have something special king don’t squander it.”

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Gentlemans Corner – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
