Meet Devin Castleton of Limatus Bespoke in San Antonio

Today we’d like to introduce you to Devin Castleton.

Devin, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Inspiration for Limatus Bespoke began back in the 1990s when I lived in Thailand and had my first tailor-made suit crafted for me. I was so impressed by the concept and experience that when I moved back to the states, I flew the tailor over to fit my friends and family. This continued as a side gig while I finished college, got an MBA and continued in my “day job” career. Back in 2014, I decided to make a more earnest effort with the business and shortly after partnered with James Castro (director of operations) and Haley Rico (creative director). Those two helped transform the vision and the business began to take off. Since then we have doubled every year in sales and boast an impressive list of loyal clients, many of whom are well-known influencers. In 2017 we were named Menswear Designer of the Year at the San Antonio Fashion Awards.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Is a start-up ever a smooth road? We are where we are today not only because of our successes but because of the missteps and hard lessons along the way. Two of the biggest challenges for us were creating – and maintaining – a perfect client experience. This is so much more than clothing. This is truly a service and relationship business. Secondly, I struggled to find a brand and identity prior to bringing Haley on as creative director. We went through a number of iterations in trying to make a name and image for ourselves before Haley came in and brilliantly applied her vision to what we were trying to do. Every day has been tough. That’s part of what I love about any entrepreneurial journey. We grow with the business and it should be that way.

Please tell us about Limatus Bespoke.
We make premium quality custom dress clothing for men and women and we do that by providing seamless and ideal customer experience. Located in the historic Roosevelt Library in San Antonio, we meet with our clients in our showroom on an appointment-only basis in order to ensure that each individual gets the attention and service that is fitting for such an important investment – yourself. We use the top fabrics from Italian heritage mills like Zegna, Drago, Loro Piana, etc. and deliver them to our clients with a total guarantee of satisfaction and comfort. What sets us apart is our individuality and our commitment to staying up close and personal with each client and not being lured away by the temptation to get into mass customization. We provide experience along with our product and our commitment is to always keep it that way. We are most proud of our growing list of clients who continually return to us and bring others with them. That’s the ultimate compliment that you’re doing something right.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
So many things. It took some time to establish a supply chain that matched the level of what we were trying to do. Having said that, if we went back in time and did things the better way initially, we would miss out on all the important and valuable lessons we learned by making mistakes and allowing ourselves to grow by experience.

  • Our suits start at $650 and can go into the thousands depending on fabrics and options.
  • Shirts start at $120; slacks at $200 and sport jackets at around $450.
