Meet DeVonte’ “Deeor” Harris

Today we’d like to introduce you to DeVonte’ “Deeor” Harris.

DeVonte’, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
In 2014, I was in my 2nd year of college at Texas State University. After my last years of basketball were over after high school, I had to find something else to do with my life. I felt as though I was at a dead stop. One day, I was watching Kanye’s Yeezy 1 Show in my dorm and I was so inspired. I am so inspired to motivate others. To do something BIG in my life. To do things that haven’t been done before. From there, I really started to research old fashion shows like Dior, Raf, and YOHJI Yamamoto, looked up old designs, and even started to watch old vintage movies. I knew I could always dress nicely, but I knew I could make better garments than most people who over saturated the market at the time. I spent about two years researching and learning about the basic aspects of fashion and then in 2016, I created my brand B.o.R and I dropped my first T-shirt. From there, I only elevated. At the end of 2016, I was blessed to be apart of the GQ style in LA. From there in March 2017, I moved to LA to really pursue my designs and to move my brand forward. I got really good exposure in the year and a half in LA, doing styling shoots, creative direction work, and even styling and being apart of music videos before I also had actual physical designs out. Fast forward to 2019, I had my first two collections on the runway in NYC for Fashion week and now I will also be apart of LA Fashion week in March 2020.

Has it been a smooth road?
Smooth but at the same time not smooth at all. One, being in college and you have problems at home, money problems, deaths in the family, failing school, feeling like you are at a loss in life. I just knew at the time my mind couldn’t focus on school and I needed a plan. A plan of happiness. Even going to LA, struggles continued. Homelessness, going without eating, getting turned down by many people who didn’t believe in you — being used for your craft, which was the worst! I went out to LA on a dollar and a dream. The struggles made my passion grow for what I was doing. Knowing you have nothing yet waking up every day still determined and motivated to follow dreams, it built me into the person I am today. The struggles made me appreciate everything and grind even harder. It made me even appreciate all the things my family did for me to even be in a position I was in. Through those bumps in the road, I was still blessed to do many things on my journey. I appreciate the bumps and bruises, as well as the smooth paths. I didn’t let those hard times defeat me. Once you have a goal, set your mind to it and DO IT.

We’d love to hear more about your work.
B.o.R By DeVonte’ Harris is a fashion design/film brand. I do sketching, to fabric sourcing, to the full design of the garment. I also am starting to work on a 5 part film starting this year as well. I am known for designing garments and styling them in music videos, photoshoots, anywhere people want to model for it. I started this brand in marketing class, not paying attention. I started it from the bottom up and see how far it has come in three years has been a fantastic sight to see. I am most proud of the determination/heart put into the brand. Starting it in school, my brother Hello Desperado and I came together to start a plan for the brand. He specializes in music, which was great because when he shot videos, he could wear 1/1 garments of mine. It was a win win situation and we help each other out. I’m proud of the way we never gave up on the brand. I was able to get help to get to places I needed to be like NYFW so I can actually have a platform.

S/o to Rado & Pharaoh. What sets me apart from others, though my designs are very different i think it’s my approach to fashion. My garments are a direct reflection of my personality. I use satins, silks, soft fabrics, as well as crystals and glitter. It’s almost like street couture. I am trying to make something that anybody and everybody can wear to any place in the world. I want to motivate others in more ways than fashion. Yeah, fashion is cool. Money is cool. But trying to change the world with goodness and love is more of the words I want to spread. So whenever people wear B.o.R, they’ll get that “feel-good” feeling, and they are going to want to pass that on to the next person. They are going to want to follow those dreams, live life to the fullest, live in happiness! That is the key to life. I want B.o.R By DeVonte’ Harris to be the key to the heart.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
It is hard to put a perspective on fashion since it is always changing. The best thing to do is focus on your craft and you can be the “change” to happen to the industry. Waves/Big changes are usually started when a brand does something going against the grain, bringing something new and fresh to the game. It only takes 1 person/1 brand to create a whole new trend. I don’t know what the industry may hold over the next decade, I only know how I will change and what I want for myself. I am going to continue to create in free spirit and reach for the stars and I believe my ideas will be the change to change the whole industry around. I want to focus on being able to integrate different views of fashion and life, from both men and women, and fuse them into 1 brand. There is no gender or rules in fashion and being able to relate to everyone is what the industry needs to better connect with the whole world. I want to bring a new, refreshing look to the industry that has not yet been seen.
