Today we’d like to introduce you to Devonte Howard.
Devonte, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Starting 2011, I discovered my passion for film making and videography at my former high school called Dubiski Career High and graduated with a Diploma in 2012. In 2014, I enrolled and developed more of my skillset from North Lake College to further my education in filmmaking where I have first produced and directed my projects such as short films, music videos, animation, and promotions. During the time, I have been introduced and partnered with MMA Texas League called Xtreame Knockout (XKO) for making Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) promos events in Dallas. Around 2018, I have graduated from North Lake College with an Associates and Video Technology degree and got hired at the production company called Presentation Services of Audio & Video (PSAV). Today, I am an independent freelance photographer and a videographer pursuing my dreams of becoming a filmmaker.
My ultimate goal is bringing the film industry in Dallas, TX where students can express their visual art whether if it is photography, short films, animation, or feature films.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There has been a lot of challenges throughout my journey. I didn’t know what it takes to start a business as a videographer or a photographer. I have worked multiple jobs as I was trying to maintain and learn about the business. I also struggled with keeping up with finances, finding clientele, and worked so many freebies in order to build trust for acceptance of my work. I’m grateful to have mentors for their advice and guidance to guide me through to process for what it takes to be successful. I’ve even taken online courses to educate myself to learn further steps for what school system that hasn’t taught me. By growing the process, I have encountered a lot of ups and downs, I have been overlooked, people didn’t believe in me, and I second guess myself a lot.
Overall, it taught me about my own self worth and trusting the process of my capabilities.
Howard Studios – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I love the creativity of visual artwork. I love films and shows with different contents and how they express their stories. And I also love watching sports networks to watch athletes how they do their montage trainings using different angles and movements that trigger the audience with motivation and show athletes their dedication. Personally, I always wanted to bring that kind of art towards my work and have people feel the same way as I feel and how I view things. Delivering messages that is meant to be delivered and leave a massive impact.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
The proudest moment in my career is seeing people enjoy and excited about my craft and shared it with their families and friends and how it made an impact in their lives. Regards, if it is business promo videos, short films, a documentary of their daily lives, or music videos.
