Today we’d like to introduce you to Devonte West
Hi Devonte, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I started during the pandemic, I was working as an Auditor at the top 5 accounting firm in the world at the time and the world ended up shutting down so I was locked in my home staring at 4 screens feeling like there had to more to life than this. A friend urged me to start posting on tiktok because what people see now on screen who I’ve always been it was just never posted. So the entering 2021, I began posting but it was July 2022 that my career seen a takeout with my viral sound “Darnell Thats U” which even till this day is a viral trending sound across multiple platforms. Posting often nearly 3-5 times a day and constantly bringing my own unique comedic spin on every video I create, I feel as though that is how I am where I am today
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It hasn’t always been a smooth road and some of the struggles were trying to stay confident in the process because I was producing alot of content and seeing little to no traction and it can be discouraging especially starting out but the biggest obstacle was when my mom passed in may 2022, her and I bonded alot of my content. I knew I had a good video when she would call me already crying laughing when I answered the phone and she always believed in me so not having that daily support was tough. I didn’t feel like creating because she was no longer here but I knew she’d want me to keep going which is what ultimately kept me pushing. Even today years later thats still the toughest obstacle because grief isn’t linear.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am content creator as well as a music artist. I’m known for my funny skits from ‘Darnell thats U” to my sayings “ohkay denn” and more. Im most proud of how I am able to blend my music with my content and still be taken serious as an artist which can be tough at times because when people see your face or video they automatically want to laugh, but people actually enjoying my music and able to see the difference in my comedy and my artist work. I specialize in comedy and what sets me apart is how my comedy is so relatable in an original way, every video you leave with a new saying or quote that you want to add to your everyday conversations. Which people have told me they do. My content seems very in arms reach meaning you know someone in your life who acts like the character im portraying or you yourself have experienced in your life. I have met people and they come up to me and say “You make me so mad because your skits be so aggravating and I have been experiencing that character you do” so seeing that is what I believe sets me apart.
How can people work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
For people who want to work or collaborate with me, a simple Dm is enough because I check them often. Even the request folder to see if anyone is interested in working. So a Dm or even an email which is in my bio on all platforms. And to support me, a simple like, comment, save, and share goes a long way on the videos and go to whatever streaming platform you use for music and listening to a song or two because I can assure at least 2 or 3 songs will become your new favorite.
