Today we’d like to introduce you to Diamond Franklin.
Diamond, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
In all honesty, photography kind of just found me. It was a love I never knew I had. It started off as something just fun to do until I was recommended by an art teacher in college to pursue it seriously. She had seen potential in the work I brought to class and encouraged me to continue down that path.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Not necessarily, there’s a saying in the photography community that says, “That’s a nice camera. I bet it takes pretty pictures.” Being a photographer, I’ve found takes a very special eye, patience, practice, and commitment. It’s not just pointing and shooting at a subject or an object. You have to most importantly have a vision. Without it, it is hard to execute the perfect photo.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about PhotographyByDiamond – what should we know?
More of a love than a business. I love to capture special moments in other’s lives. With my camera, I make a moment stand still so that it is something that you can hold on to forever. I have captured engagements, friendships, birthdays, smiles, holidays, and look forward to collecting more.
I am most known for portraits. Working with people brings me joy. I have an extensive past in working with people of all ages. Photography has opened up the door to allow me to be able to work alongside others in a creative, collaborative manner.
I believe what makes me different is the fact that I am new to this world. What others may see as a setback, I see as an advantage. It has allowed me to have such a fresh, new outlook. I am not a traditional photographer. I seek different ways to capture my photos in a unique way with the limited resources that I have.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
The characteristic that I deem to be most important to my success is determination. Life has thrown me a lot of curveballs, and due to that, I have had a lot of setbacks. I believe the only thing that has helped me to continue to press forward in my success is my determination. I refuse to lose. It may take me longer than some, but ultimately the only person I’m in competition with is the person I was yesterday.
