Today we’d like to introduce you to Dionne Ward.
Hi Dionne, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Being a single mother, it was difficult for me to go out and pamper myself I.E mani/pedis, massages, etc. So, I decided to go into what I now call my “Lab” to create products that were for me and would make me feel good about myself. I began to give out my foot scrubs as gifts for all types of celebrations, mainly Christmas and everyone loved them!! I decided to finally take a chance and I began selling my products at vendor events and it all grew from there. From only selling foot scrubs in the beginning, I’ve added body scrubs, candles, wax melts, car diffusers, and beard oil.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely wasn’t a smooth road. As everyone knows, in order to make money, you have to spend money. So, it was very rough in the beginning. I’ve never done well being vocal and customer service is high on the list alongside of providing amazing products, so I knew I had to step outside of my box if I wanted my baby to grow!!! I took baby steps starting with family and close friends to co-workers and that’s when I realized public speaking isn’t as bad as I thought it was. I started saving a little at a time and tested the waters with a few scents. Now I have over 50 fragrances to choose from.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am currently a SPEd Inclusion Aide for an elementary school. I’ve also been in the childcare field for over 20 years. Besides my own business, I couldn’t see myself doing anything else. I work around all ages and I believe what sets me apart are my life skills. I was a teenage mother. And as I matured, I began to understand parenthood a lot more, I wasn’t the best parent, but I had to figure things out on my own. So, I can relate to every age that I come across because all of my children are grown. I also have a son who has Autism. I’m able to take what I’ve learned from raising him and bring my knowledge to the classrooms…
What do you think about luck?
I’ve had my fair share of both sides of the coin. From marriage, divorce, birth, loss, and mental health. I try not to focus on the bad. Because that is one of the steps, I’ve chosen to take on my journey to a healthy lifestyle. But I was actually blessed to present my products to Boyz II Men while I was at a concert a few years back and that was one of the best experiences I’ve ever had.
