Meet DJ JayRed of Money Worth TX in Fort Worth

Today we’d like to introduce you to DJ JayRed.

Thanks for sharing your story with us DJ. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I’ve been DJn for 13 years, nine years professionally in the DFW area. I started DJn house parties and raves in college at TCU which landed me a radio show at the college radio station FM 88.7 The Choice. My show Breaking The Format which infused Alternative Rock and Hip Hop/Rap was the first programming ever in the history of the choice to incorporate hip hop or rap music in any capacity. I was syndicated in 3 markets and eventually gained my first residency in 2010 at Flashdancers Cabaret Fort Worth. I am the current resident Dj at VLive Dallas since it’s inception in 2015 which propelled me to nationwide platform as well as many opportunities to travel the country playing in several cities and states showcasing my skills. I have become a staple and mainstay in the DFW music and (strip) club scene. In 2016, I started the Money Worth Tx clothing line in an effort to offset the negative connotation of Fort Worth being ‘Murda Worth Tx.’ My ultimate goal is to be the bridge between Dallas and Fort Worth unifying the DFW on the home front and become an ambassador for all DFW hip hop.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Waiting my turn… grinding hard six or seven days a week knowing you’re supposed to be further along than your current spot.

Being placed into a ‘box’… having certain crowds or people feeling like I’m only good in a specific field of the club scene when in actuality I’m more versatile than they think.

DJn was never the hard part it came naturally but having the patience to let opportunities or situations flourish was kinda rough and frustrating but I never stop pursuing my dream or stop perfecting my craft. Waiting for my turn… grinding hard six or seven days a week knowing you’re supposed to be further along than your current spot.

Another frustrating aspect of the craft and my journey was Being placed into a ‘box’… having certain crowds or people feeling like I’m only good in a specific field of the club scene when in actuality I’m more versatile than they think.

We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
DJ JayRed is mostly known for rocking parties and specifically the celebrity after-party. Money Worth Texas started as an idea to spread my DJ brand through merch and make a statement that Fort Worth is just as big of a power player in the DFW culture as Dallas. After all, it is the DFW Metroplex. I’m most proud of being able to do what I love as a means to take care of my family as well as having the opportunity to travel and take the culture to other markets. I am almost proud that my city supports the Money Worth movement and we are making strides together to stop the violence in our community.

What were you like growing up?
I was probably the coolest nerd you ever could meet during school. I’ve always been interested in music playing four instruments in the school band since I was in 6th grade. I was goofy…. always smiling cracking some type of joke but always about my business at the same time.
