Meet Dominique Carter

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dominique Carter.

Hi Dominique, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Moving from Michigan to Texas had me missing the taste of these cookies that were made back home; it took me 12 years to get the recipe as we moved out here in 2001, and it wasn’t until 2013 that I would finally get the recipe to continue enjoying the taste of these homemade cookies and spread the love to the people that I met here in Texas and give them the chance to enjoy something from my childhood.

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Not at all; I thought I knew how to bake cookies until I got the recipe. I had to buy an actual kitchen-aid mixer, air-insulated baking sheets, learn how to mix ingredients in a certain order for the batches to come out right, and learn how to advertise and market a product, and then I thought it came to an end in 2019 my back was severely injured in an accident. I had to take a step back from life for a few years, but I stayed determined and told myself that once I was able to stand again on my own 2 feet, it was back in the kitchen.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
I also have a photography business, Shin Style Media, and looking to learn more about the video. I’ve always wanted an actual camera, and baking pushed me to want to do my own content, so I also set out on a journey in 2018 to learn more about the industry and have made countless friends and helped people bring their projects to life. I always get compliments on my work, and inspires me to want to keep going. I am very proud of my work because I always try and give people the unexpected, they tell me their concepts, and I give them my vision.

How do you define success?
Success is knowing what you went through to get where you are; you don’t accept no for an answer; you will get ghosted in business, and it is part of the process, but that doesn’t mean that what you envision for you isn’t wrong, you might need to tweak things, but learning is part of the process, hurdles happen, and not everything will come to you when you expect it. Even though I’ve been baking for years the name Le Cooki didn’t come to me until recently. If you didn’t help somebody along the way and make it all about you, it’s not good business. You have to have a good foundation to stand on, so when you look back, those memories of working hard and staying up late mean a lot more than the end result.
