Today we’d like to introduce you to Dominique Freeman.
Dominique, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
One afternoon in grade school, I had the opportunity to write about what I wanted to be when I grew up. I had written a brief description of how I wanted to become a fashion designer. Who knew that one day that dream would come true? After taking up sewing classes at Skyline High School, I enrolled myself into Wade College to study Fashion Merchandise & Marketing.
I graduated with an associate degree in the year of 2013 but still had doubts of exactly how talented I was. It wasn’t until I had a long talk with a close friend of mine who reassured me that the fashion industry was where I belonged. She then shared a few people to get in touch with and helped me register to be in my first fashion show. From that show alone, the exposure allowed me to enter other shows in the metroplex. I’ve done a total of eight shows to date, and will actually be hosting my very own show with other featured designers this fall 2019. The Naughty or Nice Fashion Design Competition will definitely be an experience you don’t want to miss. Tickets on sale now!
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It was definitely not easy getting this far and I highly doubt if it’ll get any easier as I continue to push forward. Not one successful being has ever not thought about or felt like giving up at one moment in their career, but the difference between winners and losers is that they kept pushing!
I will continue to do so myself. Not everyone is going to like me or approve of the work that I produce. Not everyone will be supportive and share my material as much as I’d like, and that’s okay! As long as I continue to put my best foot forward and keep God first in my life, I’ll will reap the benefits along the way.
Please tell us more about your work.
This brand is designed for women who portray “BOSS” characteristics and “DOMINATE” in the spotlight. A woman who effortlessly controls the room in a sophisticated, yet seductive manner. She grasps attention while checking off her list of goals. She’s definitely a head-turner who enjoys the pleasure of being the best at everything she does.
My goal is to provide additional confidence through designs established specifically for these women. I would consider her to be a “go-getter” with a sexy elegance & powerful romance in her walk. One whose self-motivated about her future & determined to look good while doing so. A contradiction: “The revealed business woman” or “The conservative party girl,” is what they may call her. With quality in every stitch, Dominance will be difficult to resist.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
Omit self-doubt! A lot of times we seem to overthink ourselves right out of a great opportunity. Needless to say, I’ve missed a huge amount of opportunities due to the lack of confidence I once had to get the job done. I no longer seek validation from anyone on rather I can or cannot succeed at a task and neither should you. Like Nike says, “Just do it!”
