Meet Don Diego

Today we’d like to introduce you to Don Diego.

Friends and Fans would describe him as the only man who can cover Chris Stapleton’s “Tenneesse Whisky,” roll right into Cardi B’s “Bodak Yellow” just before playing his original charting recording “Ago’s Jukejoint.” He is a triple threat and is known for keeping the crowd moving all night by playing versatile and relevant music. Like many icons, Don Diego is known by his name and signature sound but you may not know that sound was started and seasoned right here in Dallas. When asked how he got introduced to music, his answer is divine intervention plus a little help from a neighbor when he was in elementary school. Finding that he had a natural talent and love for music, Don started to borrow his best friend’s saxophone who lived around the corner. “He always reminds me that I owe my career to him,” Don laughs but doesn’t deny that his childhood friend may deserve some credit, “but really GOD gets the glory in everything,” Don says.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I have had a great journey, fortunately the path has been smooth until COVID19 put a small pause on live music. But Dallas has been great to me as an artist. The one challenge that I still want to overcome is winning a grammy and I don’t care for what. Don laughs. “Dallas has been a good city to live, learn and perform in over the years but this last year Dallas made me proudest,” Don said, “from the DISD food service workers making the cover of Newsweek to Dallas making the national stage for standing up to social injustice, I am proud to be from here”.
