Meet Don Foster of Recycled Books, Records, & CDs in Denton

Today we’d like to introduce you to Don Foster.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Don. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I was a customer for many years when my ex-wife owned the store. Back then, the store was in an extremely small location. We got married, and soon after the store moved to a larger location by TWU. Businesses in the same building moved out, giving us room to expand. It was a maze, so we counted ourselves lucky that we got an opportunity soon after that to move to the Denton square, where we’re currently located. At first, we only filled half the building, but now we’ve filled it all.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
There have definitely been challenges. We’ve had a landlord who wanted us out of the building to move in another business; the building despite its great location is constantly leaking, and environment not conducive to books and other media; the growth of Denton has been great in a lot of ways, but has shown that there will never be enough parking for customers or people who want to shop the square in general.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
We buy and sell just about all forms of media. Unlike many used places, we heavily emphasize quality – in all respects. Our CDs, vinyl, DVDs and blu-rays look immaculate, and we have a substantial collection of both popular items and hard to find gems. In this sense, we’re a little different than most places; we have specialized items in numerous subjects that makes shopping great for the casual browser and doctoral candidates.

What were you like growing up?
I was and introverted with a few good friends. I collected baseball cards and comic books until I became a teenager, when books and music took over. and I went from being an athlete to something else entirely after I discovered first the beats and then Bob Dylan. It was a slippery slope from there.
