Today we’d like to introduce you to Donna Alexander.
Donna, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
When I was 16 years old, growing up on Chicago’s Southside, I wanted to help with the over population of our jail system at the time. I knew people who had gone to jail for punching holes on walls, slashing tires & etc and I figured if there was a place for ppl to lash out like that without jail time, the world would be a better place and I would solve the overpopulation issues in our jail system.
At the time, I thought the idea was too good and that someone else would come out with it. So I finished HS and prepared for college and the idea resurfaced again and I brushed it off, then when I moved to Dallas in 2002, Then in 2008, the idea came back again and I did some research and nothing existed so I finally went ahead and tried it in my garage with friends and co-workers.
When I did, word spread so fast I had a stranger come to my door asking if it was the place to break stuff! At that moment, I knew I had a business. 3 years and 1000 No’s later, I found my 1st location from a guy who believed in me and was willing to sublet. By that time I had a 4 month long waiting list and we opened in December of 2011. Now almost 10 years later, we’re still here and our now headquartered in Farmers Branch, Texas on the border of Addison!
Has it been a smooth road?
The road was the most rockiest, pot-holed, inclined, declined, narrowest road in my life! LOL Nothing about it was easy besides the part of letting people lash out and enjoy themselves. That’s the most rewarding. But it’s one thing to start a new business but an entirely different thing to start a business in which NO category exists and there is no one to model off of. So the creation of my industry, getting people to understand my concept, proving the effectiveness of it and financing it was just of the few challenges and struggles along the way.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Anger Room® – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
We allow people to destroy mock room settings to relieve stress & anger… or just for fun! This is what we are known for and what I am proud of as a company. Being the 1st and original of its kind, helping people all across the world. What sets us apart from others is our uniqueness and ability to reach everyone in every walk of life.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I love that Dallas is full of open opportunities and is truly a beautiful place with great weather, even when it gets bi-polar, lol. But it’s a great place to raise children and grow and the speed of most things are just right. And The amazing Skyline (which is my bucket list goal to be on for a day. 🙂
The only thing that is not my favorite about Dallas is the market is extremely hard for small business owners to get noticed quickly of at all. One of our biggest dilemmas was Dallas knowing that we existed and it is our home versus the world knowing all about us first!
