Today we’d like to introduce you to Donna Fisher.
Donna, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
My story began as a competitive, active teenager. I enjoyed all things movement (running, jumping, cycling, throwing, swimming, stretching, lifting). I was not necessarily great at everything but I did love trying.
My high school years continued with volleyball, track and BB which was quite a challenge at right under 5 feet tall.
The passion of movement led to becoming an aerobics teacher in my 20’s teaching anything I was asked to teach while taking classes at the local community colleges. During my starter career in Occupational Therapy I realized I wanted to be in the gym more then the clinic and I began my studies to become an Exercise Physiologist at the University of Florida.
Mix passion with knowledge = new direction which led me to the Cooper Fitness Center in Dallas, TX. I heard a student give a presentation on The Cooper and I was determined to complete my internship there then return to Florida. I fell in love with Dr. Copper’s concept of preventative medicine and have been there ever since.
Dallas has become my home and The Cooper was my family until I was blessed with having my own family in 2004 with the birth of my daughter, then in 2006 with a son. I continued to work full time at Cooper teaching many formats of classes, managing the privates Pilates department and building a solid foundation of health and wellness experience.
Upon the diagnosis of my daughters, Autism, I choose to switch gears to part time teaching and went to an independent training plan to allow more freedom to meet the ever demanding needs of my family. http://donpatfish-myskysky.blogspot.com/2017/05/the-fork-in-road.html?spref=fb&m=1
This change was financially challenging but became very rewarding and allowed my life to unfold into the daily routine I now get to enjoy.
I live across the driveway from a 3,000 square foot fully furnished Gratz Pilates Studio where I train clients 7days a week as a Romana Certified Pilates Teacher. I can see my kids from the windows and allow them to sleep in while I work early am clients.
My family has been blessed by the Owner Read Gendler, also a Romana’s Pilates Instructor, and her husband Steve providing a lifestyle that supports family first.
On an average day, I wake up at 5am, train a 6am client, wake kids up for school, have kids on bikes for drop off at two different schools, walk our two rescue Dobermans, eat and begin training back to back clients till 3pm in which I head back to school for pick ups. The evenings vary from sport practice drop off, to my teaching at The Cooper, coaching volleyball, training for obstacle racing or a relaxing dinner at home while my husband who also works full-time at The Cooper works late. My husband Patrick manages a full-time clientele, a small business that he designs and builds unique wood furniture.
We are truly blessed beyond measure with a community of people that love each other well, give when needed, support new ideas and walk beside me!
Body Proof Pilates Studio – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
ForBetterHealth began as a way to provide quality continuing education to Pilates Enthusiast. There is a wide range of techniques and teachings in this field and what we offer is classes and workshops that lead anyone interested to the true core of Contrology to the best of our knowledge.
I take great pride in selecting our presenters, offering affordable ways for teachers and students to keep learning and growing in a nonjudgmental environment.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
A life well lived is paved with defining success for me changes and evolves. The sense of calm from having positive boundaries, living authentically and having clarity in my purpose is the current meaning of success.
At times, I have felt more successful in my life while lacking a sense of peace so the connection between feeling successful and being balanced may be more of a true definition than just looking successful on the exterior.
I keep a keen eye on what’s going on between the lines to give perspective into the evolving direction of societal success.
