Today we’d like to introduce you to Douglas Rice.
Douglas, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My family and I have been going to Broken Bow Oklahoma for about 15 years. Mostly to go fishing and camping at Beavers Bend State park. In 2019 be purchased two cabins in the area and rented them out on the weekends to cover expenses. Fast forward to 2025 and we now have 5 cabins in the area and focus on creating unique family and couples stays in our cabins, tinyhouses and geodesic domes. We have the only geodesic domes you can rent in the area.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The pandemic was the catalyst that exploded our business. The need for people to social distance made area like Broken Bow a destination for those looking to get out of the city. The pandemic also brought us our biggest challenges as cleaning protocols and increased business complicated everything.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I do have a day job when I am not running our cabin rental business. I work for Five Below opening new stores coast to coast and my wife owns her own creative writing business in Frisco.
I am the managing partner and handle all guest interaction and communication. I pride myself on always being available and strive for a 5-star experience for everyone who stays with us.
I am most proud of the unique themed stays that we have created. Guest have voted and we have been a super host with Airbnb for over 5 years. We also book directly for repeat guests and those who find us though our activity on social media.
Any big plans?
We have some big plans for the future. We have about 7 additional acres of land to develop at our Pine Acres Glamping property. We plan on adding a Toy Story themed bus experience call Bus Lightyear this next year. I’m addition we will be adding more unique dome and Tinyhouse stays before moving on to custom treehouses.
