Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Candace Brown.
Dr. Candace, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I’m a native of Dallas, Texas and I mean that in all cardinal directions of Dallas, as I would regularly visit with family and friends all over town. I did my early childhood schooling in Oak Cliff and then later moved to Lake Highlands where I would graduate from Lake Highlands High School. School always came naturally to me, and I chose a career in dentistry very early. It was in the ninth grade to be exact, where I decided on dentistry after our principal gave the entire school an assembly lecture on making decisions about our professional lives, I decided to be more proactive about mine. I signed up for an upcoming pre-professional program that our school district was launching as an initiative to encourage students to choose a professional career prior to college. During the program, I decided to shadow a local dentist. I thought it would be the most exciting career choice since I remembered as a child that I often enjoyed visiting my dentist. The experience was incredibly gratifying, and I kept finding opportunities that reassured my decision to pursue dentistry. I graduated from Baylor University in Waco, Texas in 2007 with my bachelor’s degree. I then went on to Texas A&M School of Dentistry, formerly known as the Baylor College of Dentistry in Dallas, Texas in 2012 where I gained my Doctor of Dental Surgery Degree.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No. There have been no smooth roads. I had to learn how to do so many things in addition to academics that were so important to my career. I had to learn how to not only regurgitate information but to apply it and use it to deduce logic in different situations. I had to learn how to take tests. I had to learn to ignore people with negative thoughts and energy. I had to learn how to study in group settings. I had to learn how to network and build relationships. I had to learn how to manage money. I had to learn time management and practice good organization skills. But most importantly, I had to learn how to consistently believe in myself. I had to trust that everything I dedicated my time and energy to would pay off and that somehow, somewhere doors would open for me. Needless to say, my efforts didn’t go unnoticed.
Fresh Dentistry by CanDDS – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I am the owner and lead dentist of CanDDS Dental Company, PLLC, established in 2013 in Dallas, Texas. My company primarily does business as Fresh Dentistry by CanDDS; a general dental practice in Cedar Hill, Texas that focuses on providing quality dental work to all patients who seek our services. As a general dentist, I provide a variety of dental services including but not limited to fillings, crowns, veneers, root canals, extractions, dentures, partial dentures, bridges, implants, and whitening. I’m most proud of my company’s vision which is to connect with the significant portion of the population that does not regularly seek dental care and restore their faith and trust in dentistry as a valuable and necessary part of their basic life needs. Over my six years of practicing, I attribute most, if not all, of my success on the lifetime relationships I have created with my patients. Their love and respect for me is magnified every time they refer a patient. I believe the genuine love and care that patients receive in our office is unique for every patient’s experience but absolutely helps to set us apart from others.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
The proudest moment of my career happened on May 29th, 2018. This was the day I opened for business not only as a solo dental provider but as an entrepreneur. I was genuinely reassured that day that it was the most natural transition for me.
