Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Christian Cade.
Dr. Christian, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I come from humble beginnings, born and raised in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. My parents have always pushed me to follow my heart and they did a great job at exposing me to different facets of life. I pursued my undergraduate studies at Xavier University of Louisiana, in New Orleans, and furthered my education at Life University, where I graduated with a Doctorate of Chiropractic. I say I didn’t choose chiropractic, chiropractic chose me. I was a pre-med student at Xavier and had a college roommate with a medical condition. I supported her through many episodes and hospitalizations and was disappointed by a lot of her doctor’s approach to care. I had a revelation around my junior year that led me to the chiropractic profession.
The profession’s philosophy is, “the power that made the body, heals the body”. Chiropractic is more than just “cracking”, neck and back pain. Chiropractors offer a holistic approach to treating the root of the cause, instead of treating symptoms. Your body needs no help, but it needs no interference. Combining chiropractic and understanding how the body works has helped to form my passion in women’s health, which ultimately led to me also becoming a birth doula and community childbirth educator. Five years ago, my sister in law ended up with an unnecessary cesarean section and I felt helpless. A doula’s primary responsibility is to offer emotional and physical support during pregnancy, labor, and delivery, along with gathering resources to help families make informed decisions.
Research has shown that birthing people who have a doula present during labor are less likely to end in a cesarean section, have better pain management, and better birth outcomes. A lot of people ask where the connection is between chiropractic and pregnancy, but when you think about it, it makes total sense. Your baby is growing inside of your uterus, essentially sitting in your pelvis. If your pelvis is malpositioned, it creates a smaller space for baby to move and grow, and may also translate to nerves being pinched, in that area, anterior pelvic or round ligament pain. Research also shows us that birthing people who see a chiropractor during their pregnancy will result in reducing the length of labor, improves mobility and energy, maintaining a healthier pregnancy and optimal positioning of baby for birth.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My road has been interesting. I think the most challenging part of my journey has been explaining what I do. People don’t know how good their bodies were designed to feel and it’s common in our society to find pain medications, without digging deeper to find the root or cause of their pain. My goal is to bring chiropractic to the Black community and bridge racial disparities by influencing healthier lifestyle alternatives. Growing up, I didn’t see a chiropractor and I didn’t know many people who had.

We have a little to offer everyone at New Leaf Wellness Center. We offer chiropractic services, whether you’re dealing with acute symptoms or want to be proactive about your wellness journey. We offer Fire Cupping therapy, which is an hour long session to move “Qi” or energy, stagnant blood flow, and relieve muscle tension. We also offer Herbal Yoni (vaginal) Steaming, which may seem like a trend now, but has been around for centuries with a list of benefits, from women who suffer from painful menstruation to those recovering from childbirth or miscarriage. Lastly, as stated before, I offer private childbirth education and birth doula services for moms and families who are looking for birth support and resources.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
That is hard because there were so many good memories growing up, but my favorite childhood memory would have to be road trips with my family. My dad got such joy out of showing my brother and me how to read an Atlas and knowing our cardinal directions. He’d always say, it shouldn’t matter where you are, you should always know how to get home.
