Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Chuck Murphy.
Hi Dr. Murphy, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I have always been fascinated with and at times frightened by things that “go bump in the night”. As a child of 5, I remember lying in my darkened bedroom and being terrified of the sounds the house-made after dark. Where they evil spirits or red-eyed monsters (I have always had a thing with red eyes) lurking in my closet, hiding down the hall? Why did the dog bark for seemingly no reason? As the years have passed, I worked hard to overcome my fears and begin to understand what I saw as a spiritual reality that always seemed to be just out of reach. And yet, I always knew somehow, that it was there, interacting with me, and with the world around me, beckoning me to follow it and learn about its mysteries. I was beginning a journey that would steer me in directions that I could not even yet imagine. As I look back over these 70+ years, I would never have thought I would find myself in the wonder-filled space I find myself in today. After a stint in the Marines, (1968-1972) I filled my early years working in Radio and Television as an On-Air Personality and starting a family. I was a cradle catholic so I followed my “spiritual thirst” by doing and becoming all, I could in the church. President of PAC, Men’s Club. Eucharistic Minister, Lector, Marriage Encounter Instructor, you name it, I was up for it. I stopped short of Deacon. By this point, I realized the answers I was seeking were not in a religion, but rather the expansive realm of spirituality. In 1990, many things in my life changed, my marriage ended, I closed some of my production companies, left the church, and dove headfirst into spirituality. I continued my studies at the University and stepped into the public by becoming a Reader at the Dallas Psychic Fair. I have been a Reader there for 20 years. I then a second fair and a third and before I knew it, I was Reading somewhere every weekend. It was then that I discovered the world of Metaphysics, people who understood and worked with those in spirit and suddenly, everything in my life began to change. I still consider myself a Medium and was named 7th Best Male Medium in America for 2017 by American Psychic and Medium Magazine.
I opened my own Private Practice in 2005 and began seeing clients every day. As my practice grew, I opened a 2nd office in McKinney. I was seeing clients every day 6 days a week in either Little Elm or McKinney. It was around then that ZOOM (pre-Covid) was gaining popularity and I expanded to clients worldwide. I have had clients or students from Seoul. South Korea to Dubai and all over the US and Canada.
Today, I live with my wife of 30+ years in Denton Texas, and have established my practice there. I see and/or teach clients 6 days a week. My rates have not changed in over 20 years and my Sessions are one and half hours. Because of the Pandemic, everyone is seen over ZOOM until things settle down. I have started a Fair in Denton at Shambhala Wellness once a quarter. Our first Fair sold out, so I am considering expanding to more often than quarterly.
In addition, to my private practice, fairs, and teaching, I also co-host a Radio Program, “Ghost Talk” on The Make It So Network carried on Blogtalk Radio. The program is also carried on all Audible Podcast outlets. I am the Founder and Case Leader of CROSSINGS Paranormal Research (2010) and currently, we continue to investigate numerous Cases all over North Texas. Our Team consists of 7 members, all experts in their field of practice.
I am always accepting new clients and students. Google and private reviews, other magazine articles (Dallas Observer), and word of mouth seem to be the driving force behind by my staying busy.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Smooth??? No, going from a life of Radio and Television to a life focused on all things spiritual was quite the undertaking. And then there have been health challenges as well – total knee replacement, heart attack, pneumonia, stroke, and a back fusion have certainly had an impact on my abilities and lifestyle.
However, I have been very Blessed and lucky to survive all of these challenges and still be able to continue forward. And, other than these “bumps” in the road, life has been pretty smooth.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Spiritual Journeys is dedicated to helping anyone seeking to know more about themselves and the spiritual world around them. We offer Spiritual Counseling, as well as Intuitive Sessions (Readings). Classes teaching Basic Psychic Principles, as well as Mediumship Techniques are also offered. In addition, we offer a class in Paranormal Investigating. All of the textbooks are available on Amazon as well.
We have been providing most of these services since 1995. As I said in the summary, I also co-host a monthly radio program, “Ghost Talk” where we discuss paranormal investigations we are currently engaged in, we discuss a featured piece of new equipment each month and of course, answer questions submitted during the month. If time allows, we will take live call-ins. The program is also distributed as a Podcast through all the usual Podcast sources, iHeart, Spotify, Apple, and so on.
Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
This is a ministry, a calling to be of service to others, not become rich and famous, never forget that. Do not enter this field of work to line their pockets. I charge a fair fee of a dollar a minute, while many will charge double or triple that amount, even more.
What is the purpose of having the ability to help people heal if they cannot afford your assistance? Make sure you can be of service to those who are financially sound as well as though who are not. Develop a “sliding” scale for those who need it, and in some cases do outright “Pro-Bono” work. I believe that is our number one priority.
