Meet Dr. Jeannita Bussle of Shero Management in Grand Prairie

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Jeannita Bussle.

Dr. Bussle, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I am a Detroit native-born and raised. I attended Tennessee State University for my undergraduate studies from 1999-2003. It was during this time that I met my future husband. Five years after graduation, I relocated to the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex after he proposed to me in 2008. I began teaching secondary mathematics for a highly coveted school district and I am currently a high school guidance counselor within this same district. My husband and I have two beautiful children and our marriage certainly had its ups and downs. Unfortunately, in August 2017, my husband committed suicide during a police standoff after a domestic dispute. This event made me a widow at just 36 years old. Our two children were just 7 and 3 years old at the time. My marriage and this incident led me to write and publish my memoir: Sorrow to Shero: Pain, Power, and Peace. This book shines a light on psychological abuse and the importance of mental health.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not always been easy but my faith has kept me strong. I struggled with the decision to write this book because I would have to relive painful memories. We live in a society of secrecy and being transparent comes with judgment and ridicule. I decided that if I shared my story, I would be completely honest and not hold back when it comes to my own shortcomings. Transparency is empowering. Therefore, it was most important for me to let others facing similar obstacles know they are not alone; as a result, I decided it was time to share my testimony.

We’d love to hear more about your work.
Sorrow to Shero: Pain, Power, and Peace is a memoir. I am most proud of the positive feedback that I have received and the impact my story is having on readers. My hope is that this memoir will remind people that the tragedies of life can happen to anyone and at any time, however, God is ever-present. I am unapologetic in my belief that God is the reason why I am still here.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
The proudest moment of my career so far was earning my Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership K-12 from Dallas Baptist University this past August 2020. I began the program in January 2017 just eight months before losing my husband. I am proud to say that I stayed the course and never looked back.
