Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. KaraJulianne Albright.
Dr. Albright, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Born and raised in Houston, my family was very conservative when it came to sex and relationships. There were no discussions about sexuality. When I went away to college, I realized how socially awkward and sexually unprepared I was for the real world. I decided to major in Psychology and dive into human behavior. I was very lucky to have an adviser willing to teach me things beyond the textbooks. After further research and exploration, I found I had a knack for connections and energy exchange. I started attending classes on alternative lifestyles including BDSM and ethical non-monogamy and found it to be an enrichment (and enlightening). My only issue was that none of the other participants looked like me. In all but one session, I was the only person of color. I shared my adoration and concerns to a friend of mine and she thought I was crazy, I will never forget her saying to me “People of color don’t engage in such behavior. We have sex or make love, we don’t entertain that chaos.” I was determined to prove her wrong. I decided to continue my education and received my Doctorate in Psychology with a concentration in Human Sexuality. Here we are, four years later, I have created Sex Love and Chaos – an exploratory community for anyone interested in learning about alternative lifestyles, or just looking for something extra to add to their relationship.
Has it been a smooth road?
There have been a ton of struggles! People may not fully understand my role as a sexual wellness coach, and alternative lifestyle educator. Some people believe it falls in the same line as a sex worker and you know what, that’s okay too! I have learned to take control of my narrative and I teach others, ESPECIALLY women, to do the same, this life is too short to be ashamed of being your best sexual self. PERIOD!
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Sex Love & Chaos story. Tell us more about it.
Sex Love & Chaos is truly unique! We provide adult sex education that encourages sex-positive conversations. We specialize in alternative lifestyles, seminars, workshops, and one on one sessions that allow clients to open and free their minds about sexuality. We even offer infidelity recovery coaching for those couples that have had a hard time communicating their needs. We are full-service therapy, counseling, and coaching!
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
I believe that we are in for a huge shift in the dynamic of relationships. People are looking for better ways to connect and share with one and another, technology is a huge part of our daily lives and I believe we crave the one on one connections with our partners even more. The need for sexual wellness checkups will be just as prominent as physical exams.
