Meet Dr RC Shields Sr of Haltom City

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr RC Shields Sr.

Hi Dr RC, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My story begins when my grandfather passed away. When I was 5 years old asked God to be my Father. At the time I didn’t know this was scriptural
The truth is I grew up without a natural father. It seems people have opinions about fatherless children but by the grace of God I beat the odds. The Lord has put father figures in my life during times of need. The Marine Corps gave me the discipline I needed to be the father and husband I am today. I have been to same wife for over35 years. I believe in impacting the community that I live and serving the Kingdom of God. My son and I wrote a book in 2025 called “The Father Wound ” that people can get on Amazon.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Healing from childhood wounds is a process. I must say that there have been many times of challenges. God has been gracious and merciful through all things. Combat trauma is entirely different thing. This was very humbling for me. The first step is acknowledging that there is a problem.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Center of Development and Civic Engagement (Voluntary Service) to serve the Veterans. I assisted in the homeless program for Veterans. I assisted established a Food distribution for Veterans only every 3rd month of the month. I did public speaking for schools, organizations and other community programs. I had to manage over 5million dollar budget every year. I had the honor of developing a transportation program for Veterans to get to appointments. Doing COVID, we also started a program for Volunteers to call Veterans who was at home alone.

Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
I got alot of support with what ever project I started. I never had a problem recruiting Volunteers and getting donations. The weather is my lest favorite.
