Meet Dr. Richa Mittal of Radiant Health Weight Loss and Wellness in Frisco

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Richa Mittal.

Dr. Mittal, before we jump into specific questions about your practice, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I have been a physician for over 15 years and in that time I have cared for many people in the hospital and outpatient setting who had chronic diseases. Day in and day out, I saw people suffering from conditions like diabetes, heart disease, strokes, PCOS and liver disease, to name a few. The common denominator I saw was not being addressed- lifestyle, nutrition and metabolic health. I became very interested in prevention and specifically, weight management to treat the root cause of these chronic problems. In addition to my board certification in Internal Medicine, I then became board-certified in Obesity Medicine.

In order to offer a unique and comprehensive approach, I started my practice Radiant Health. As a patient of my membership-based practice, my patients get visits that are unrushed, as well as a plan that is personalized, comprehensive and created for them based on their medical evaluation. In addition to a complete medical plan, we offer evidence-based medications, personalized nutrition counseling and health coaching. My goal is to help my patients achieve a sustainable lifestyle change that is rooted in science. We offer visits ranging from a one-time deep dive into their preventive health plan in our 360 Wellness Visit, to our personalized medical & lifestyle weight loss program Your Journey, Your Way.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The road to becoming a physician is competitive and requires dedication, high levels of achievement and grit. The path is fairly well-laid out and we know what the “next step” is so to speak. That is not so when starting a practice!

The road to entrepreneurship is not smooth, and I definitely had to get over my fears of not knowing what I was doing! When starting anything new, you have to embrace the unknown and get comfortable with being uncomfortable. There are so many steps to figure out along the way when starting a practice – believing that you can and will do so is the key step to get started. What keeps me going is my passion and knowing that I offer something of value to my patients. When I see them changing the course of their health and lives, I know am in the right place!

Radiant Health Weight Loss and Wellness – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Radiant Health specializes in offering a comprehensive medical and lifestyle plan rooted in science to help people prevent, treat and often slow the progression to chronic lifestyle diseases. We specialize in helping people with conditions like polycystic ovarian syndrome, prediabetes, type 2 diabetes, metabolic syndrome, high cholesterol, high blood pressure and those looking to optimize their weight. Patients with obesity and overweight can even help lower their risk for certain weight-related cancers, reduce symptoms of autoimmune diseases and gut-related inflammatory diseases.

What makes our practice unique is the personalized approach. We spend time with our patients to help tailor a customized plan for your medical conditions, and also to your lifestyle, schedule and preferences. Our membership model includes text access in-between visits, 60-90 mins appointments, customized nutrition counseling and plan, assistance with meal-planning, use of FDA-approved medications and you see me, the physician, at every visit.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
I define success as providing value, offering something unique, and overcoming challenges. I aim to share my knowledge, educate, and empower others to use the gifts we have been given to create our best lives. My criteria for success are to see growth in my practice, see more patients, as well as grow the following for my wellness blog, social media presence, speaking opportunities and consulting projects. As one of the founding members and Vice President of the Dallas Obesity Society, I also aim to educate and empower other health care providers in the compassionate and evidence-based care treatment of obesity.
