Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Vince Baugher.
Dr. Baugher, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I grew up on a small farm in Alabama. We didn’t have much, but we did have a cow, a few goats, some ducks, chickens and several pigs, and I loved it! At 19, I took some time off of school to do volunteer service – one year at the World Center of the Baha’i Faith in Israel, and 2½ years in Tanzania, east Africa. When I came back, I finished my biochemistry degree at the University of Alabama. My mother had come down with a severe, life-threatening case of epilepsy. But when she was cured by a chiropractor, I was intrigued and found what I really wanted to do to serve humanity – chiropractic. My mom is still alive and in great health today 20+ years later, thanks to her chiropractor, Dr. Apsley.
The love of my life, Tessy, is originally from Kenya, but we met in Israel. She got her undergrad degree at Michigan State and her Master’s in Environmental Science from UNT, and we have 3 spunky kids: Nabil, (Nah-BEEL), 14, and our 12 year-old twins, Tajallii (Tah-jah-LEE) and Vahid (Vah-HEED). Nabil loves tennis and is in the drum line at Denton High School. Vahid is very analytical and comes up with the most fascinating and thoughtful questions about the world. And I love Tajallii’s creativity and her insatiable desire to craft beautiful artwork.
Has it been a smooth road?
Sometimes loving what you do, and even gradually becoming pretty good at it, doesn’t mean you’re also naturally good at business management, personnel management, marketing, accounting or even fixing that glitchy photocopier. Those skills have come along more slowly, often with some painful learning experiences.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
We’re known for our herniated disc treatment. We were the first clinic in Denton County to begin to offer Spinal Decompression, almost 15 years ago, and have gradually come to be recognized as “the” place to go for non-surgical treatment for herniated and bulging discs. We’ve got good relationships with many medical doctors and get a lot of our referrals from orthopedic surgeons, neurosurgeons, OB/Gyns, pediatricians and family practice doctors, not to mention quite a few chiropractors.
But we also treat lots of families, pregnant women and kids. Last we checked, we were one of only two chiropractic clinics in Denton certified by the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Denton is an awesome place for other chiropractors to come to! My wife and I love the nice blend of university culture, established residential community feel and thriving business community. We’d love to welcome more chiropractors to this area to help care for all the spines around here and help educate the community on the healing benefits of natural chiropractic care.
