Meet Drew Myers of Defining Audacity Radio Show & Podcast in Rainbow

Today we’d like to introduce you to Drew Myers.

So, before we jump into specific questions, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
When I walked away from my last “real” job, I put a pen to paper and realized that I had the embarrassing distinction of having 11 jobs since graduating from college…11 years ago. That’s right …11 jobs in 11 years.

At first, I looked at this “accomplishment” as a monumental failure. I felt like a bona fide loser and started asking self-defeating questions. The main one: “What the hell is wrong with me?!?!?!?”

Then, the smoke cleared and my confidence started to return. I kept my heart open for my next opportunity and/or adventure. Well, it found me.

After a lot of discussion and prayer, I decided to finally embrace the gift that God gave me and inspire others to look at life a little differently. I started a grassroots blog, Defining Audacity, which was designed to push others to live a bold, adventurous and intentional life. I simply wrote about my life – which included learning to be a dad, giving back and trying to attack life with reckless abandon. That blog turned into a syndicated radio show, which started in Sept. 2015.

I put a heavy emphasis on life lists – a lot like a bucket list that puts an emphasis on life and includes the little things people have been putting off, for whatever reason. I would ask every single one of my guests if they had a life list, and that led to an inspiring conversation about goals, dreams and aspirations. I put an emphasis on life lists to inspire people – get them to turn off Netflix and live life. Not that they needed my permission, but I gave them the opportunity to put their dreams in spotlight. I would tell them, “That’s exactly where they belong.”

Now, I put a heavy emphasis on story. I believe everyone is a masterpiece – one-of-a-kind and exquisite; and I believe the amazing power of story celebrates that rarity and beauty. I am a story seeker. I give others the opportunity to share their story – with the hopes that they also embrace their story. Through my radio shows, podcast and speaking engagements, I showcase and celebrate individuals that have given themselves permission to live radically honest lives, pursue their dreams and live on purpose.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Did I mention 11 jobs in 11 years after I graduated from college? I was everything from a marketing director and real estate agent to a college football coach. My dad told me when I was growing up, “life is short. If you don’t love what you’re doing – go do something else.” I embraced that advice with both arms. It took me all those jobs – over all those years – to figure out my true calling.

Defining Audacity Radio Show & Podcast – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from others?
I have built a personal brand that inspires people to live a bold, adventurous and intentional life, using the amazing power of story to accomplish that goal. I’m most proud of my ability to adjust on the move and tweak my brand when obstacles and hurdles presented themselves. I’m also proud of my perseverance. According to a lot of people – my parents and my wife included – I should have thrown in the towel a long time ago. Whether it’s a speaking engagement or on my radio show, I constantly challenge people to fight their butts off. No matter how bad things are OR how good things are. I have made it my mission to live that challenge and walk the walk – not just talk the talk.

There are a lot of moving parts to the Defining Audacity brand and the Live on Purpose initiative:
• Speaking engagements (including an “Inspirational Notes” event, where I partner with a singer/songwriter on the Texas Music scene to deliver a powerful message highlighted by motivation and music.);

• Daily radio show on Real Texas Radio;

• Podcast (released three days a week on all platforms);

• “You Sing, I’ll Drive” video series, where I “interview” singer/songwriters on the Texas Music scene from the front seat of vehicle as we drive around town;

• The Road Less Traveled, my live-audience show that happens the second Sunday of every month in Granbury, Texas;

• Live radio show every Tuesday night from the rooftop of LSA Burger in Denton, Texas (song swap with artists on the Texas Music scene).

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
For one month, I did a daily video blog for my YouTube channel. It damn near killed me. On one of those vlogs, I showed my guts. I put my wife on camera, and she voiced her frustration with me and my career path. She announced to “the world” that she was tired of having her debit card declined at Chick-fil-a. She put a deadline on me. I had to make the Defining Audacity brand and the Live on Purpose initiative sustainable. I had to start living up to my financial responsibilities. That’s exactly what I did.
