Today we’d like to introduce you to Dustin Fuller.
Dustin, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
My LiFE story starts when I was going to college at the University of North Texas. I was in a student/work program and about to graduate when a coworker of mine told me that his wife ran a credit union. He knew I was getting my degree in Finance and would be leaving soon. I didn’t know the first thing about what a credit union was but after doing extensive research, I immediately knew that’s the industry I wanted to be in for the rest of my life. I started quickly by becoming a part-time teller while finishing my degree. Soon after going full time, I became a loan officer to aide members with their debt. After lending for a few years, I then moved over into finance and accounting for the credit union. After gaining experience in that side of the credit union, I was named the CFO, where I remained for several years. About two years ago, my CEO decided to retire and the board of directors gave me an opportunity to become the new CEO. I embraced that role and it has been well worth it ever since. I enjoy trying to provide the best experience for both the members and employees of the credit union.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
For the most part, it has been a smooth road. I attribute that to those I have hired around me. Both the past and current staff members have joined beside me in growing the credit union to where it is today. I couldn’t have done this without them or the members we serve.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about LiFE FCU – what should we know?
LiFE FCU is a one-stop shop credit union. We are a financial institution that specializes in all types of lending, from consumer loans to commercial loans and everything in between. We offer rewards for our debit card program and we offer investments through LiFE Investments & Legacy Planning. I’m very proud of how our credit union got started, as credit unions are all about “People Helping People”, as well as our loyalty from our current membership base, and are ability to grow and impact more people’s lives.
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
There are several people who deserve credit for helping me get to where I am today. First of all my board of directors, who put their trust in me from the beginning and continue to support me. Secondly, my staff has always been there supporting me and cheering me on. They are an honest and open group that helps me make adjustments quickly and smoothly. Lastly, the members of the credit union deserve all the credit, as the credit union wouldn’t exist without them. They have all been very supportive of any changes we have made along the way and are encourage by the continued growth of the credit union.
