Today we’d like to introduce you to Eddie Dominguez.
Eddie, before we jump into specific questions, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
At Tupinamba Cafe, you are more than a patron. You are part of a story that began in 1910 when Papa Froylan Dominguez fled Mexico during the height of the Mexican Revolution with a handful of cherished family recipes. He and his wife Consuelo began serving those recipes when they opened the first Tupinamba in 1947, where it is believed the nacho and sour cream enchilada were introduced to Dallas. What started as a family tradition has now become a Dallas legend. Still presiding over the oldest family-owned Mexican restaurant in the city, the Dominguez family proudly serves the same delicious recipes to this day. Drop in to see us. Welcome to our story!
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Business, especially the restaurant business is never easy! We’ve worked through our journey with the faith of family and friends and continue to learn and grow.
Tupinamba Cafe – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Tupinamba has been around for more than 60 years. We are now the oldest family-owned Mexican restaurant in Dallas. We specialize in down-home Tex-Mex and our infamous “Tupy Taco.” We are most proud of our continued success as a family-owned restaurant and our loyal employees, some who have been a part of our team for more than 20 years. What sets us apart from other restaurants, someone from our family is always on location.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success in my business is that if I can personally rest assured that I have given every customer that walks in our door the best service and best quality of food that I am capable of then I have been successful. The markers are the positive responses from our customers, repeat customer business, satisfaction replies, and obvious increase in sales. Another marker is employee positive attitude and a good working environment.
