Today we’d like to introduce you to Eddie Lee Henderson.
Eddie Lee, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I graduated with a degree in Marketing from LeTourneau University and knew that I wanted to run my own business, but didn’t know what field or industry. My family says I’ve been a storyteller from birth and I’ve played piano all my life so entertainment seemed like a natural fit.
Living in Nashville, TN for 3 years I found a group of guys who met up once a week and wrote scripts. After sitting in with them and learning the process I ventured out on my own writing several short and feature length scripts. It’s here where I also directed my first music video for the band Metropolis.
When I moved back to Dallas in 2001 I continued my passions managing bands and producing short films, commercials, and music videos.
Today, I own and operate a video and film production company with services that include commercials, music videos, demo reels for actors, TV shows, and films.
We’re proud of a 2017 Christmas commercial we produced for DFW’s largest chimney sweep company.
Other notable projects include:
“Let’s Go DFW”, I created with Paul Salfen in 2015. The entertainment news style show aired on CBS Dallas for one season. On the show we had heavy weights like Garth Brooks, Sir Ben Kingsley, Dirk Nowitzki, Owen Wilson, Cowboys’ coach Jason Garrett, Ronda Rousey, John Leguizamo, Buzz Aldrin, Benicio Del Toro and more.
Season 1 sizzle reel.
The documentary “The Hollywood Experience” is in post-production. Among the stars featured are John Schneider and William Sadler.
My next feature film “Young Bolsheviks” will feature music from Yellowcard front man Ryan Key and an unreleased track from Ice Cube.
Has it been a smooth road?
I never went to film school so learning simple production techniques and skills have been ongoing. Raising money for projects has been the next biggest challenge. There’s billions of dollars in DFW but convincing an investor that your TV show or film is worth the risk is difficult.
The hardest part of my journey to this point has been my divorce in 2013 and suicide of my stepson in 2017. Loss in both cases is something I feel I’ll never fully recover from.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the BlackGinger Media story. Tell us more about the business.
BlackGinger Media LLC provides services such as commercials, music videos, demo reels for actors, TV show and film production. Our commercials stack up against any on national TV (see our Christmas chimney sweep commercial).
The TV shows are second only to those found in New York or L.A., and the writing for our demo scenes has the praise of Dallas’ top agent and acting coach.
Aside from the creative eye that we bring, what’s most important to me is the relationship building. Many times after completing a project clients have hugged me. I’d like to think that I made them feel special through the service we provided and the final product.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
In the next 5 years I think we’ll see total buy-in to video content of small businesses, and really anyone looking to promote themselves. This market is in its genesis right now, with millions of videos waiting to be produced for real estate agents, doctors, actors, personal trainers, essential oil distributors, restaurants, and more. Only about 10-20% of any of these markets have video content.
Pricing:
- We bill per project but it typically falls around $100/hr. for production and editing.
- 3 scene demo reels are $600
