Today we’d like to introduce you to Elaina Perez.
Elaina, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I began my journey in the Staffing and Recruiting industry in late 1994. I worked for a family owned business managing a staffing office. I loved my job and learned so much about the business that when I was denied a promotion due to my gender, I decided to take the leap of faith and open up my agency. My husband Martin was and has always been the backbone of Elite. It has been twenty-two years now and it was the best blind move I ever made. Business is busier than ever and we have employees with the longevity of sixteen plus years. I am so thankful for them and the rest of the employees out in the field each day.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It has been amazingly wonderful for the most part, but we have had a few bumps in the road along the way. To me, they are learning bumps; without them, we don’t grow. Some of our struggles have been finding quality people to do the jobs our clients require. I tell my recruiters every day, I prefer they take a little longer to find a quality person who will last than send a body and be in the same position in two days. Plus, we risk losing clients. I have some of the same clients I did in 1998.
Please tell us about your business.
Elite Payroll and Staffing specialize in full service payroll processing and employment placement and staffing for clerical and light industrial companies. We are known for our and I am most proud of our customer service. We develop client relationships that have lasted for years and with that comes client loyalty. My clients can rest assured that when they request something from our team, they will get honesty, integrity and quality.
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
My husband Martin Perez of course, deserves just as much if not more credit than myself. He has always been in the shadows of the business but constantly contributing. Our three “Elite Teens” Claudia Vela, Aida Torres and Christine Munoz. They have been with us 13, 15 and 16 years. The rest of the team has been here a while, too but these three know the business and they don’t need me daily. They can operate without me and to me, that is every business owner’s dream.
